Dry and near normal temperatures today for the end of January. This has been one of the drier January's in our history. The good news is the pattern looks to be changing to a wetter one over the next couple of weeks. Our first chance of rain arrives toward dawn tomorrow morning with as much as an inch of rain possible. Tomorrow we rise to well above normal temperatures before we fall back to near normal over the weekend.

We picked up 0.06" of rain overnight here in East Nantmeal. Rain today and this evening could bring us between 0.50" to 0.75" of much needed rain across the area. Mild today to close out our colder than normal January with temperatures well into the 40's. Chillier and dry over the weekend before milder for much of next week.

GFS is hellbent on a wintry mix here next Wednesday into Thursday

Got to love the 12z OP. That will be rain. Then it has another rain storm, followed by southern Virginia snow then another cutter lol.

Looks like a gradient pattern setting up on the models for the next couple weeks. Unfortunately it appears the Philly area will mostly remain south of the gradient. Maybe some front end thumps in there.

An active pattern will help. Probably just rain for the first week of February but after that we’ll see.

Feel it is wise to focus on short and medium range and not too much on"looks rainy for 3 weeks" type guessing. Models are really jumpy right now next 7 days but the gfs op continues to be rock solid with a mixed thump next Wednesday going to rain Thursday (maybe) before slotting. Then looks very active after.

We finished with between 0.25” to 0.45” of rain across the area yesterday. I still have to run the final numbers, but it looks like January 2025 will finish as a Top 25 or 30 cold January in our recorded climate history back to 1894. We also finished with above normal snowfall. I will have the final January climate summary later today.
A roller coaster ride in temperatures this week with both snow and rain chances starting around midweek. Unsurprisingly, the first 2 weeks of February will have at least a few chances of snow. Keep in mind that February is the snowiest month here in the philly burbs.

GFS still hellbent on a wintry storm midweek. Showing 2 separate impules...a weak one Wednesday  as mostly scattered snow showers or light snow (icon on board and cmc slowwwwly trending) then has a significant ice/sleet storm Wednesday overnight into a good chunk of Thursday. Nice CAD signal depicted for a global model. Pretty Interesting 'mild' stretch. We take.
