With yesterday's 1.26" of rain, we are now up to 73% of normal rainfall through yesterday. Our normal seasonal snowfall through yesterday is 30.4" we are at 70% of average. For Team Snow we could see a few wet snowflakes toward Saturday morning but otherwise a dry and chilly stretch of days with temperatures near normal for early March before a nice warm up starts on Monday with temperatures reaching well into the 60's to near 70 by the middle of next week.

2014 and 2015 exist. To me, those are the gold standards for winters going forward.

13-14 is my favorite winter of all time that I have lived through. There were so many winter events that season it made Ray Martin give up updating his Winter Storm archive. (Just messing @famartin :P) In case anyone is not familiar, his site is THE site for looking back on old storms from 1993-2013 in our area. https://www.raymondcmartinjr.com/weather/ I wish I was good with computers and websites because I'd love to keep updating it to current(and past).

It's been a windy winter it seems.  Since Dec 21, I've recorded 39 days with gusts over 20 mph, 11 days with gusts over 30 mph, and 2 days with a peak gust of 42 mph (yesterday).  Not sure where this stands in the records, but it does seem windier than usual.

Cold and wind this winter for sure with wind being pretty much constant. Snow was a afterthought.

Tomorrows forecast appears windy as well...

Consistent cold though, December 14 was +9F and a spring month. December 2013 also above normal.

I think it was December 2015 that was the spring month. December 2014 was a warm month (an outlier to the rest of the winter, but a +3, not +9. December 2013 was close to normal, like this December. Difference is that February 2014 was much colder, whereas this February was another near normal month.

I'd say 2014 was definitely more consistent cold than this winter. 2015 has them both beat at the depths of their cold (coldest tri-monthly at PHL was 31.9 Jan-March, while 2014 was 33, and this year 34.9).

Yeah you are right December 2014 was +2F and December 2013 was below normal looked it up which makes 2013-2014 the last wire to wire cold winter I be misremembering stuff and all

We should see near normal temperatures through the weekend before a big warmup next week. Some spots across the higher terrain of Chester County could see some wet snow toward midnight tonight. A small accumulation is possible in some spots. Could this be our last snow of the year? Our latest day with some average measurable snow is actually still over 6 weeks away on April 23rd. The latest measurable snow in Chester County history was the 0.1" of snow reported at Glenmoore back on May 1, 1963.

March is a transitional weather month that can represent both winter and summer like weather events. For example, we have had temperatures as warm as 90 degrees back on March 22, 1948 in Phoenixville and as cold as 4 below zero back in 1984. One of the largest snowstorms in County history occurred back in 1958 when 50 inches of heavy wet snow fell at Elverson/Morgantown which resulted in rescue helicopters being  needed at the Morgantown Exit of the PA Turnpike just up the road from here in East Nantmeal to rescue stranded cars and trucks. That same storm resulted in 49” of snow at Devault. Below are the March records for the County.image.thumb.png.f0399eb24ab2c2ba0332fb896b018220.png

Yea but it hit the ground and ran right off streams rose a bit then fell right back down again.  Now the next chance of real rain is a ways away.  Next week will probably be 60's and 70's with 25-30% humidity wind and fires again. At least down here we are going to need multiple days possibly weeks of steady rain.

I mean the event was something most we have seen around here in weeks.  Gotta start somewhere.

Where is drought guy to give his thoughts on yesterday’s rain?

still here  busy  today with my job.   I said this on Monday and I was close ----New years eve all over again on  Wednesday evening folks   That is the last time we had t storms and significant rains.  1-3 inches of rain will be a billion dollar rain event for farmers and landscapers in eastern PA and will definitely help this years crops and finally reestablished green lawns again.   However, this rainfall event  will only put a dent in the long term drought but it will be a significant dent in getting water back into the ground. The combination of warmer temps of 50 degrees on Tuesday into the weekend with the heavy rain will thaw out the entire frozen soil profile quickly. With no extreme overnight cold temps like over the past weekend, the greener lawns and budding of trees, daffodils and other bulbs popping up will be noticeable by the end of the weekend.  Their is also a real good chance of a squall line with severe t- storms, straight line winds and a severe t- storm tornado watch being issued.  Best potential weather event all winter.  But after this event, it is  back to the SOS again with wind and dry temps. At least the fire danger will be gone.----

I was only wrong on the fire threat. The last two days were brutal with relative humidities below 30% and 40 mph wind gusts. and the fire threat remains.  Any soil moisture has been somewhat removed from the rain  and will be really gone for sure  by next Wednesday with temps in the mid 60's. . The BS showers on Thursday will  be pittance in the bucket. Mt Holly issues a special statement for tomorrow too about the fire threat.  W really need a week of cloudy  moderate rainfall for 5 + days instead of these similar Santa Ana winds downsloping the Blue MTs. The pattern has to break soon. My lawn is a little greener but is not much to say. Mostly yellow. The bulbs are popping up but again not remarkable.
