Hurricane Agnes
Bottomed out at 8.4F this morning just after sunrise at 7:25 am. The last time it hit a single digit temp IMBY was December 2022 (with a 5.4F) - literally the same period with a 7.0F 12/23/22 & a 5.4F 12/24/22. Also had the same type of pattern back in 2022 that is progged this year, with a "warm up" around New Years. Am now up to 10 and rising, with dp 3.

ChescoWx
This morning was our coldest morning in almost 2 years since the 2.8-degree low back on Christmas Eve morning in 2002. That was the year with our coldest Christmas Eve/Day combination on record here in Chester County. All spots across Chester and Berks Counties were in the single digits this morning with the exception of our normal warm spot the Brandywine Airport in West Chester at 12 degrees. The lowest temperature was the 1.9 above zero at Nottingham. Today should be our last below freezing high temperatures for the rest of the year. We should see a brief period of snow and/or freezing rain move through the area from West to East between around 7am through 10am tomorrow morning. The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for the AM. Follow this the rest of the remaining week of the year looks to feature near normal temperatures to close out 2024. Ralph Wiggum
5ºF last night in Ivyland. Light snow for many tomorrow morning. Setting expectations at a fresh dusting here. Extreme parts of SE PA and N DE could get hazardous with mixed precip falling on ground that has been solidly frozen now for days. Almost has that 1994 feel with the deep cold this early in the season. I really hope NOT to get a redux of that winter as we head into Jan-Feb. 1

I'm assuming he's talking about 93-94 because 94-95 was a very warm winter, especially December and January. 93-94 was wall-to-wall cold, and had the last below zero day at PHL (-5 on 1/19/1994). Yeah that’s the year salt was very hard to come by due to all the icing.
JTA66
It would be nice to Jebwalk Christmas Eve morning with flakes coming down. I'm circling 1/7 for an impactful winter event...my mom has a 9am appointment with the cardiologist that day. She had surgery the morning of 12/5/03. I had to drive from Towamencin to Delco Memorial Hospital in the snow that morning. My mom's health is as good a teleconnection for snow as any. Redmorninglight
Made it down to 9 here in Cape May. Impressive since we have no snow cover and the ocean is in the mid 40s. Been a few years. .

Hurricane Agnes
Have fine flakes going this morning. So far had a low of 23 earlier this morning ~3:40 am, and the temp has slowly been rising since. Currently 27 with dp 22 and a light dusting. 20 hours ago, penndotguy said: was that the frozen tundra year when we were covered in ice that didn’t melt till April? That year was awful. As PhiEaglesFan noted, the last time PHL went below 0. It was also the multiple ice storm year when almost all of the commercial and retail salt was gone out of the tristate area and there were "caravans" of trucks of road salt being brought down from NY and other points north. I remember having to go on a work trip during the worst of the ice storms (I think ~Jan. 7 or so) and was headed to 30th St. station to take the train down to Baltimore. I almost went up on the Expressway but thought better of it and continued onto the Kelly Drive and thank goodness I didn't go up there because it ended up completely closed down for hours as cars/trucks got stuck on all the on/off ramps. In Baltimore, I was able to find some bags of Halite, bought a couple to bring home packed in my suitcase, and gave to my mom. She was the only one on her block with a sidewalk clear and dry to the pavement.

RU848789
Well, we got 1/8" in the first 15 minutes of snow (started around 7:30 am) which is 1/2" per hour rate, so if this goes for 1.5 hours at this rate, that's 3/4". Will take it. Every flake is accumulating so roads already covered. 27F.

Kevin Reilly
Cloudy 27f dewpoint 20f mangled snowflakes mixed with sleet ground all covered white say 0.03" of accumulation mainly sleet, my expectations have been reached this will be outta here soon. If you are driving though down here damage done with sleet, flakes, and freezing rain mixing in at 27f careful on the roads.

RU848789
3/8" in ~30 min, which is overperforming. That would translate to an inch or so over 90 minutes (looks like a 90 minute wide swath of snow by radar). Most reports in NWNJ/NEPA/SENY where the snow is about over are for 1-1.5", but they were expected to get a bit more, as the band is supposed to weaken some as it heads SE. If it doesn't I think we'll get an inch or more in most of CNJ. Still 27F.

Snow on top of snow without a single flake melting (27F still) on Christmas Eve, so we will have a White Christmas here with 2-2.5" OTG in most locations here. The only thing better would be way more snow, but can't be too greedy these days.
