Looking at radar it looks like C-E CT is going to dry slot while the heaviest slides to the east

That should fill in over the next few hours as the dynamics increase. Now if we had a scenario of a dry slot when the LLJ was cranking...then we would be game for some big gusts. But I think it's going to be difficult to generate much in the way of bigger gusts today without the aid of convection. But we'll see the NAM does indicate a good deal of convective elements within the rain today so I suppose there will be some isolated higher gusts. Eastern areas though should watch for any line...mesos have a pretty solid looking line going which could produce some 50+ gusts out ahead of it as it moves east-northeast across far eastern Connecticut. Rhode Island, and eastern Mass later on.

32.1F  -RA   Driveway and cars are coated with ice but it is starting to melt.  Not expecting warmth nor wind up here until fropa.  I have a big snow load on the north facing roof and with 2.5" of rain I am hoping to get into the warm air for a few hours.  No way this cold rain will erase this pack

Our plow guy called me as he was backing in dropping sand and said he did not dare back down the hill to the cul de sac as it was glare ice and once you start slipping it's all over. Managed to throw enough of my own sand on the one hill leading out of our driveway. A bit white knuckle for a minute as I knew I only had one chance , but managed to get out. Hopefully it'll be fine by end of day.

31.9° -RA

No real accretion although the coop stairs were a little slick

High res trending slower to erode the wedge. Pack remains intact up there. May even take til near dark down here.

The entire state of CT will have gusts 50+. That has been locked for days

It's going to be interesting watching this unfold through the day. There are some interesting differences between the HRRR/NAMs (not even looking at clown maps). We may have just enough instability later on to have an increased likelihood for some widespread 45-50 mph gusts. Widespread 50+...that may be tough.

Weird-closings for wind and rain in New England...what's next, closings for 32 degrees?  Jeez.

Yeah I can't believe when I saw that. That is absolutely absurd. Who is coming up with these decisions? These people are becoming ridiculous and should not be holding the positions they do.

Yeah I’m resigned to my wedged fate. CON may flirt with not warm sectoring either although an hour or two of 50+ is more likely.

1) Relative to the over 160 school districts in CT these are a handful

2) Some of these are in places with a high wind warning

3) They’re early dismissals, so it’s not like the kids aren’t in school for at least part of the day

I usually don’t take a stance on this stuff, but I don’t get the pearl clutching on some districts trying to get kids home before a bad storm gets bad. Schools aren’t getting sued the way people here think they are.

did they at least offer the remote learning? That's what they did up here, but I personally think the remote learning, especially for a one-off day like this is a waste of time. just give them the day off.
