What a month so far! These cold days with snow in the air remind me of my youth in the 70's. I would have been outside sled riding and having snowball battles every day and coming in with wet clothes and being sent to the basement to change into dry clothes. (no cable tv or play station) Yes I'm old.

I picked up 3.5 inches today and currently have 6-7 on the ground in my yard. It's been a couple years since we have had that much snow cover.

With the cold temperatures and the snow cover I believe it will help for our next few storms by keeping the temps down. :pepsi:

Not even bothering posting the RGEM but it shows the arctic wave forming further west and more amped than most guidance which gives us 6+. Hard to entertain it whenever other guidance is further east. Something to watch in the coming days.

Keeping an eye on Saturday, NAM looked a little thumpy before mix. I hope we can hold onto the pack through the arctic outbreak just to keep snow otg streak going.  Getting another inch or two before we warm up enough for rain / mix would go a long way to helping with that.

Saturday looks to be mostly rain but changing to light snow showers in the afternoon.
Sunday looking more interesting now with system moving a little more north west. We could have a nice snow day even if we are not going to be in the heaviest snow. I’ll take another 1-3.

Yeah maybe we eek out 1-3. Very possible. If you are looking at anything more then most likely we will be disappointed. The only modeling we have on our side is the RGEM, and the long range HRRR and RAP. I guess we shall see. I still think just west of 95 will be the jackpot area.

...EXTREME COLD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH
THURSDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...An extended period of temperatures up to 30 degrees below
normal. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero
possible. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero are possible for
  higher elevations.

* WHERE...Portions of east central Ohio, northwest, southwest, and
western Pennsylvania, and northern and the northern panhandle of
  West Virginia.

* WHEN...From late Sunday night through Thursday morning. The
coldest period is most likely from Monday to early Wednesday, with
the coldest wind chills during the morning hours Tuesday and
  Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Periods of dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25
below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as
30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected
skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.

So basically Canada against the world Sunday. Haven’t put a lot into that, so that would be a huge bonus if it verifies

The HRRR and RAP are on our side as well. I'm not expecting the Canadian but it hasn't budged in days. With that being said I think we'd be happy with 1-2 before the cold.

Add Euro to the guidance that is saying that the Canadian is way out of its mind. My guess we see it start slowly trending back east either at 18z or 0z. With that being said idt our snowpack survives the warm up.

Different storm same story. HRRR and RGEM amped compared to rest of guidance. I'm expecting by 12z tomorrow it will start trending south. Time will tell.

Is there something telling you it will trend south or are you just being pessimistic?

NAM throws some snow back our way off and on into the night. Another in our camp at least.

We've just been hurt before lol. Just being pessimistic/realistic. Although I just looked at the NAM and it does look like it came west and it looks like it should atleast give us a light event. Hopefully the RGEM holds serve next. I want to see us make a run at a temp lower than -10.
