There's MU's 12/20 - 1/10 bitter cold air mass he talked about in his Winter Outlook back on November 1st. Watch it verify.

Every time people mention MU I think of the pastor of my church. He started out a Met major at MU in the mid-2010's but ended up a political science major because of the math. By the time he graduated, he got the calling and ended up in the Seminary.

We remain below normal through Saturday before a nice warmup gets underway on Sunday. Some snow flurries could develop later this evening. A strong cold front will sweep from west to east sometime just before rush hour tomorrow morning. Some spots could see a briefly heavy snow squall. Any squall could leave a quick coating to 1/2 inch of snow. Tomorrow will be very windy with temperatures falling from an early morning high just above freezing. Most spots will struggle to get above the freezing mark on Friday. Warmer with rain chances by next Monday morning's rush hour.

i gotta be honest fellas, i use to cherish the cold. The older i get it can F off.

It does get harder as you get older, but I  can still get used to it. My bigger issue is every time I hear the furnace goes on I cringe. Lol

My thoughts on PSU:

I don't think they'll be punished much, if at all, for losing to Oregon.  I mean, someone has to lose these conference championship games, and I don't think the committee wants to set the precedent that reaching your conference championship can hurt you (I believe they've said as much).  Let alone if you lose to the #1 overall team in a semi-competitive game.  Now, if one team absolutely hammers the other it could change the rankings around the margins, but I don't see PSU dropping below hosting a first-round playoff game and I certainly don't see them dropping out altogether.  As for the Bama thing, yeah, I think we all know where this is headed haha.

Additionally, I actually think PSU has a decent shot at beating Oregon.  The schedule results have been very similar, as well as the statistics.  Sure, their offense will put up numbers, but I think our defense will hold up well enough.  To me, the bigger issue is Oregon's underrated defense and can PSU score enough to match Oregon's output.  Big questions there.  Oregon is the rightful favorite but there's no reason this shouldn't be a decent game.

Also, are we sure it's better to be the #1 overall seed?  That matchup with the 8/9 winner looks more brutal than say the 5/12.  Plus, you miss out on hosting a game, which is the coolest part.  I also don't like my team sitting too long while the other team is coming off a spirited win.  I believe the whole format is going to need reworked.  The auto-byes given out to the four conference champs (and/or the highest ranked non-P4 team) are going to make for imbalanced brackets that, over time, will cause consternation.  Just one man's thoughts.

So who drops out then if Clemson beats SMU in a close game?    SMU?  Doubt it if PSU gets hammered...and it gives them the chance to keep Alabama in if PSU drops too far.  That is the precedent for sports writers suggesting PSU needs to show well. PSU sort of backed into the title game.   Boise State is not a forgone conclusion to win either.   If they lose, that is someone else who has to go.   I think PSU is in trouble if SMU and/or Boise State lose and PSU gets hammered.  We are nit picking at random, somewhat unlikely circumstances here but the point of my original post was that if OSU had defeated Michigan, PSU's spot would probably be even more assured.

If SMU loses, I feel certain they'll leave them out.

But hey Alabama going on the road to play OSU or ND will be fun I guess .....

Agreed if OSU had won PSU would be assured of their positioning and of hosting a home game.  But I disagree about PSU dropping out under any scenario.  I just don't think you drop from #3 to out of the whole dance for losing to the #1 overall team.  I don't think the committee would do that, especially from a conference championship game standpoint.  Heck, OSU just lost at home to a five-loss team and dropped what, a few spots?  I think the rankings are fairly set at this point.  If Clemson wins, I believe they and SMU will get in and Bama will be left out.  I was being a bit facetious with my Bama comment.  I get the worries of others but I don't think the committee will bend over for them.  The Boise thing makes no difference.  The non-P4 teams get one rep, whether that's Boise or someone else doesn't matter, just one rep.  No slot-stealing from that group.  We'll all find out in five days.

I don't totally agree on the Boise or SMU thing (different points from each of you) but could be wrong of course.  They are both on 9+ game winning streaks.  Neither should be bumped for losing the title game (if competitive)  especially Boise.  What I think and what will happen could be different.  But if PSU lost 49-7, random score, they very easily could drop out of the top 10 rankings.   A 3 loss Alabama Team may get in over a 2 Loss PSU team.

I believe the committee has stated on the record that they don't want to punish teams too harshly for having to play that extra game.  The goal is not to disincentivize teams from reaching their conference championship games.  I could be wrong.  The Bama angle certainly adds intrigue.

I just think it's hard to square the circle that if PSU had not reached the conference championship game they'd be locked into that 5-8 range and hosting a playoff game, but if they do reach the title game they can miss the playoffs outright.  That's tough.  But you're right about one thing, it would certainly behoove Penn State to not lay a total goose egg Saturday night haha.

This is exactly what I've questioned multiple times in here. I'm honestly hoping for a 5/12 matchup.

One thing in PSU''s favor, Oregon gets no advantage from beating up PSU.  All they needs is to win.

I believe that as of now, Alabama would be in, correct? What I'm reading right from the horse's mouth is that the Tide are essentially in.

The Committee chairman said this last night specific to Alabama and in general to other teams: “Those who are not playing [in conference championship games], we will not adjust those teams.” Manuel told ESPN.
