You probably already know both United States and Russian figure skaters, Coaches and there families where among the passengers on the American Airlines flight. There was three soldiers on the Black Hawk according to the US Army. I'm assuming they included the pilot as a soldier.

An airplane crash is a scary proposition and I hope (assuming they died) it was quickly and without agony. Now the agony is for their family and friends :-(. Each time I fly I think about it as one is so very much not in control in those situations. I also wonder if this was an error or not.

Unfortunately I heard a recording with Air traffic control and I'm pretty sure I heard a woman screaming right before the recording ends. I'm hoping to hear some good news, but temperatures and time is an unfortunate reality.

Blizzard of 93
The general theme seems to be about 1 more week of relax/moderation, before the back & forth boundary pattern gets underway later next week into the following week. Hopefully we can key in on a specific potential over the next few days. 1

Euro Ai is very wet and seemingly cold enough for a decent snow or ice storm the 5th into the 6th. The next one is rain on the AI.
ChescoWx
Dry and near normal temperatures today for the end of January. This has been one of the drier January's in our history. The good news is the pattern looks to be changing to a wetter one over the next couple of weeks. Our first chance of rain arrives toward dawn tomorrow morning with as much as an inch of rain possible. Tomorrow we rise to well above normal temperatures before we fall back to near normal over the weekend.
Mount Joy Snowman
Low of 27. Just a horrible tragedy over the Potomac last night. Basically everyone's worst nightmare when they get on a plane. My heart goes out to all the families involved. This world can be such a cruel place. So awful.

All is dependent the boundary location. Euro AI has probably been the best if you want cold and snow. Canadian if you want warmth.

GFS still pushed the boundary/540 line south as the precip arrives on the 5th so we get a non snow winter storm that changes into a LOT of rain heading into the 6th.

You should start the Spring thread on March 1 as it may jive more with want you are hoping for...instead of starting the winter thread. ha. Sorry you are depressed about it. Bubbler86
After the winter mix to rain next week, the GFS goes into a suppressively cold regime for several days with highs in the 30's and lows in the teens/low 20's. Nothing blocking the next low that cuts. Not a great run for snow. Plenty cold later next week though.
