Good thing MU’s call of a 20 day Winter followed by a January warm up panned out…

Lots of forecasters, including JB, are trying to save their Winter calls by rooting on a February warm up.

Time will tell, but NO one called for a frigid January.

In summary, no pro forecaster or good hobbyist has any clue what the last 2 months of Winter will hold.

Or a cold December.

His call was for a mild and mostly snowless December. That was on point. His call was for, as you mentioned was a 3 week bout of cold and snow from late December into the first 2 weeks of January. That came later than forecast by about 2 weeks and fell entirely in January. He also said on 11/1 that the cold would likely be bitterly cold. That verified. February is TBD but his original call was dry and mild.

He definitely had some details off but on the whole his call seems okay to me. I don't recall, I could be wrong, but I don't remember anyone calling for a spell of bitterly cold weather in January except for Elliott.

Not trying to defend him necessarily but those are the facts. He never tries to save anything. He always owns his mistakes.

Good points, but December finished below normal even though the last week of the month warmed up. We only had a couple inches of snow, but most of December was below normal for temperatures.

Let’s see where February goes…

I’m keeping my snowblower gassed up!

December was above normal at MU by 1.8 degrees. That is his forecast station.

With our epic cold snap now in the rearview mirror, the AVERAGE coldest day of the year for Harrisburg is January 29th.  Interesting that the coldest day is pretty much in December for western USA and late January or even early February in eastern USA.
