Remember the Northern lights? First time I ever saw them. We're headed back down to a minimum in 12 years, give or take. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/solar-cycle-progression And yet this is the coldest winter in years. The last solar maximum (2014) was bookended by some of the coldest winters in decades (2013-14 & 2014-15), the likes of which haven’t been seen since. Another thing is that most places now treat the roads with more efficient melting chemicals, so they really aren't the roads of yore.

It’s true, it takes solid 1” rates when temps are greater than say 28 if there’s a bunch of pre treatment down, especially highways that see vehicle volume. Now my street OTOH, not so much

whiteout
I might be experiencing something totally different than most reading the thread. Been getting raked since around 10:30am. Over 3 inches. Northwest Cumberland county here about 5 miles due west of Newville in Doubling Gap. Easy stickage on everything including roads. Wind picking up now too. .

That pic from the Hanover poster in MA showing roads covered is far cry from our roads here BUT we are about at 2" on the grass now. Grass is almost totally covered. That line on the radar mitch posted correlates to this meso map with the low exiting the coast right now. I expect it to continue to enhance as it moves East and rakes Lanco, York, etc.
