Absolutely. 

I have a 2-bit theory that you want to be in the bullseye for the first area wide of the season because it almost always means your chances of being the bullseye in subsequent events is higher, and don't want to be on the short end for the first area wide event because it increases odds you'll repeat. I have found for the mid Atlantic area, it works often.

Because it wouldn't surprise me in the least that the NIL money it took to get just about everyone back took longer to roll-up and one if not the lot of them were headed out. 

 

Everybody who had eligibility to come back, came back with the exception of Warren who had no choice. He's the first TE coming out and likely hears his name called day one. He had to leave. That probably requires a LOT of money. 

 

And everything I am hearing is the NIL machine over in State College is catching up to the other big schools. Largest alumni association on Earth and a lot of deep pockets. I think it's needless to say it's National Championship of fired next year for the shitty used car salesman.

The NIL is about the change a lot I think...or possibly even go away in lieu of revenue sharing.

Yeah, a lot of change coming to college athletics, with smaller sports potentially feeling the effects the most.  I have a buddy here at work who wrestled for a major college program and we were just discussing how starting next year they are capping the rosters to 30 wrestlers but making all 30 full scholarship.  As it stands now, wrestling is only allowed 9.9 scholarships per team and even with that many of the smaller programs can't fully fund it.  With the big schools now being able to give a full scholarship to all 30 members of the team it will be that much harder for the little guys to compete, not that they really can as it is.  There may be a lot of unintended consequences to all this.

Yes, something else will need to change in the future for it to have the desired effect.   Ted Cruz and the government are trying to get involved to regulate it to the point of legal issues.   Deloitte is supposedly going to head up this management arm of the NCAA and determine what is right or wrong but you are right in that schools are not going to risk cheating on wrestling in fear of it hurting their big programs...so smaller sports may be cast down a bit even if they can give the full 30.  

 

The only way to make it truly fair would have to include a draft but not sure how that could ever happen.

We are back to below freezing days and nights till Friday afternoon. Maybe some flurries on Thursday afternoon otherwise dry until Saturday. It will warm to close to normal by Saturday and we should see some rain that afternoon. But big changes start on Sunday with the arrival of a strong arctic front on Sunday. With the passage of the front, we may see snow arriving by Sunday evening. Whether it's flurries or a plowable event will be determined in a few more days. Either way the coldest air of the season will arrive by Monday night and last through much of next week.

Of historical note on this date back in 1912 the coldest reading in Chester County PA history was recorded at Coatesville 1SW and matched on January 22, 1961 at Phoenixville of 19 degrees below zero.

The only way to make things truly fair is to have an honest conversation about get the money out and hand out death penalties like they're candy to schools caught doling out money. Don't just wag your finger at USC and say "How dare you buy Reggie Bush's mother a house?" Drop the hammer and say "That house cost your program four years during which you can not recruit, nor can you receive transfers. Bush is ineligible effective immediately and everyone else can transfer out without having to sit for a season."

You then also do away with the transfer portal and make kids commit to the program they signed a damned letter of intent to play for or sit a year out while transferring. 

All the Olympic sports are being shafted by football and to a lesser extent basketball. You fix football in particular and wrasslin goes back to 9.5 schollies per season and Lehigh can continue to have the #1 ranked 133 pounder in the country and maybe Cael Sanderson has to actually go to some kid's house in Johnstown and eat a shitty dinner and talk to the kid's parents about the tenents of Penn State while watching that kid spit into a cup so he doesn't have to jack off in the bathroom stall the next day to lose that last two ounces so he can make weight.

That too.  NCAA sports has turned into professional sports (obvious comment.)   If you bring down the hammer on the bad schools it takes away money from the conferences.  I read that the ACC is worried Belichek is going to jump from NC already...a completely money motivated worry.,

Regarding next week, I'm a little skeptical of the current forecast high temp. For example, for today, CTP had my forecast high of 21 back on Saturday. It's currently 25 and likely heading for at least the upper 20s. That's a big miss. Historically, warmth seems to be constantly under-forecasted and cold seems to be over-forecasted. I think next week will be very cold...not sure we'll see highs in the mid teens. At least based off what has happened more often than not.

I think the main chance of it happening would be a deep snow pack to reflect, reflect, reflect.
