Well, I honestly did not expect to go below zero for a third straight night.  However, currently (at 10:50pm) under clear skies and calm winds my temperature has dropped to -0.4 degrees F.  I'm actually ahead of last night in the race to the bottom.  My backup station is currently reading -1.1 F.  The stations are located roughly 20 feet apart in my backyard.  Both temperature sensors are 6 feet off the ground, so I consider both readings valid although my primary station has been the one with the slightly higher lows.  My forecast for tonight was for mostly cloudy skies and a low of +4 F.  I'm thinking the most likely thing to hamper the radiation would be clouds to roll in at some point before dawn.  As of now I'll place my predicted low in between this morning's -9.8 and Tuesday morning's -3.6 and go for a low of -6.0.  Assuming I remain below zero at midnight and record a low temp below zero, this will be the longest continuous stretch of sub-zero low's I've ever recorded at 3.  The only other possible date this might have happened that I can't remember would be January 1994.  But it seems to me that I only had 2 nights.  Other than 1994 I know I've never had more than one consecutive night below zero.

4 at the house when I left, lowest car thermo reading was -2. I think it’s fair to say this week has been one of the more impressive cold outbreaks of our lifetimes.

A thumb in the eye of those who would have laughed at anyone who would have predicted such a week at the start of winter.

10 degrees at 5:30 am. Currently 8 degrees.
Some frozen pipes in the area.
Bassmasters fishing classic down in Georgia this week. A lot of them guys are taking it really tough. Between the roads and whiteout conditions on the water the other day with below freezing temperatures . A lot of them guys never saw anything like it.

If there’s one thing that remains true in this game it’s that predictions made for months out, while better than they used to be, are still virtually impossible.

Currently we have the second driest January since 1889. Not sure we add anything else the rest of the month.

The irony is thick as the main driver for this is....the cold and the pattern that brought it.

Low of -2 here but up to 6 now.  Appears MDT did not make negative stopping at 0.

Bliz, I'll save you the effort on the Euro 0z. It's la-la land and one of many possibilities, but this is what one of the best possibility looks like.

The 0z Euro says hi to the Groundhog this run!

Certainly a period of interest to watch…  Let’s see what 12z says today.

Currently it's 0.0 which is the lowest of the day here.

Intersecting stat, HGR never reached 0 during the cold string.   PA was on the periphery of the coldest air.     Some of that was snow cover too but more the depth of the cold air which lessened greatly south of PA.  BWI snuck in a 6 for their lowest temp.   IAD's lowest was 3.

I would have to reach out to someone who keeps records but I can't remember the last time Emporium received 20 inches of snow in a single event.

Temperature hovered around five last night. Daytime high forecasted is 26°F. That is going to feel downright balmy after the last four days.

Also helps when the sun is out, makes it feel warmer….not a fan of them cold cloudy days unless we’re getting snow.

I think it got as cold here last night as it did the night before. NWS shows -9 right now, AW shows -6, and overnight low for Bedford CO airport Airport was -14 again.

I had clouds over here messing with any chance of colder last night.    So did MDT.  MDT is actually reporting freezing mist right now.

Yep that will do it. Not a cloud in the sky here. I heat my garage with coal and can tell how cold it was overnight by how many shovels of coal it takes lol. Generally its 1 shovel full in the am. The other night I had to throw 3 in it. Last night it pretty much completely burnt up and I am having to almost start from scratch. It was pretty dang cold last night going by that.

Several guys here who use coal for varying things.  I know it is messy some times but wish I had coal heat as it is rustic and you are more self sufficient IMO.
