They dropped from 10 to 3 in 15 min then the back up to 7 five min later. LOL.  All corresponding to the wind blowing East or North over the icy water I guess.    So not exactly a scientific observation.     They were in the teens or possibly 9 when wind had a westerly component.

Is there a secondary front coming through today? I sort of expected a day when temps were very slow to budge, CTP had me for a forecast high of 19. It's 8:50am and I'm already up to 17.3.

Meso's have you getting in the low to mid 20's.    Not anything I am aware of for a front.  Something coming Tue night though which could be a little snow.

5.6" total here.  2.3 low this morning.

No chance at record cold this week as this is the same stretch of days as the epic 1994 event.  Three straight days of -10 or greater lows and the only day in Millersville weather history where the high failed to reach above zero (-2).

So when the youngsters go off on how cold it is, you have the "well, back in the day" at your disposal.

Low of 12. Will have qpf from my 6.8” of snow a little later. What a splendid scene out there.

The sun, blue skies and snow-covered landscape this morning makes for any amazing descriptive word that one can find. So nice to snatch winter from the jaws of Nina.

So you were one of the lucky ones that did not have to walk to school uphill without legs?

As 99% of my time is spent in our thread, i just checked enso update, and am glad to see that the influence cont8unues to be rather muted.  IMO it give us a better chance when AO/NAO/PNA/EPO are in workable phases.  Looking like a relaxation is looming twds EOM, but nowhere close to writing Feb off as we'll need to see what the base state looks like in the next week or so.

Till then...enjoy deep winter gang.

With yesterday's snow which totaled 5.3" (w.e. 0.43") we are now up to 11.7" for the month of January through yesterday. This is 7.4" above our normal snow to date. For the winter season we stand at 14.5" of snow which is 3.7" above normal through yesterday. There is a cold weather advisory in effect through noon on Wednesday. Temperatures today will struggle to reach 20 degrees - while tomorrow and Wednesday will see highs in the mid-teens. Low temperatures the next 3 nights will be within a few degrees of zero. We start a slow moderating trend on Friday and may finally see temperatures rise to above freezing by next Sunday.

Yep - there's reason for optimism that we're not finished yet. Always a good thing when you know you're not at the end of the line.

On the other subject, it is already up to 29 at DCA (could have held festivities outdoors it appears)  and Wundermap has a a lot of mid 20's around the LSV right now.  That deeper cold air to our west is not affecting us as progged for today.   And I agree, cannot write anything off outside a week.

Up to 21 here now, already 2 over the forecast high. I alluded to this last week...cold, regardless of the extent of the air mass, often seems overdone. At least for today, that's going to hold true.

Yes, you called it.  Today it will bust on both sides though like I said, the MDT low reading is not legit IMO.  I think it was artificially cooled by the ice beside the equipment.  It is not every day that the zone forecast busts by 10AM.

MDT 11 degrees below me this morning?

Nah.

Nice squall just moved through. 17 degrees and dropping with some winds picking up. Looks like about 1/4” the last 20-30 mins with that squall. Rates and growth in all of the recent squalls have been LES like. Sadly that might be the last of the day.

last night we had a nice streamer develop over us that added at least half to possibly 3/4” in about an hour and a half. Little more this morning and during nooners.
