I’m giving you a hard time. But this storm wants some respect from you for these 1-2” rates

I am a realistic poster.  I am not sure any of my posts ever said anything except that I would be surprised if this busted despite us losing out on some qpf this AM.  Chris at one point said he may not make 3" and I said I think we are all getting that and some more.

I forget how close you and him are geographically even though I think when you’re in the hills you have 200 feet on him elevation wise? I’ve seen bit differences though between BRS/pen mar and smithsburg area. That notorious ft Richie 7+ report is loading

As the bird flies I think we are about 5 miles apart but yea I am around 850'.  You have a totally different environ over there being east of the South Mountain chain.

It’s weird though, we are about the same elevation here. You’ve been here a lot longer than I have. Is it noticeably different? There’s this small ridge on the other side of jacks mountain next to my house (jacks mountain is what it’s called to my knowledge), but then it goes down until you get to the climb towards Blue Ridge summit. They’re at like 1300 right?

I'm at 750" elevation here in Smithsburg.

Goes up very quickly in Blue Ridge Summit.

This band is freaking awesome!

Just puking snow right now.

I love it out there right now. 2”/hr type stuff again. Ratios have to be awesome right now. I’m just about at 900’, just wonder if being just east of this ridge aka jacks mountain impacts the microclimo

I'm sure it does. I tend to lose a little QPF to the Catoctins just east of me.

We have jacked over here plenty but it is from Miller A type storms.  Almost all meso model outputs have our (west side of South Mountain)  negative bias built in when a system is coming more from the west than the south.    Warm Air advections charges up the west side of the mountain chain where as it does not do that on your side.

Been here a little over 3 years now, moved in Oct ‘21. I bet you enjoyed that Jan 2021 storm I believe it was? You guys got 12+ down to Thurmont while in Westminster we had 7 or so. Then I think you also did really well in 3/14/17?

Snow has stopped here in State College. Guess there’s too many meteorology majors who want snow here.

Been that way for 20+ years now since I was an undergrad there 2005-09. UNV is always too far in any direction for the best snow and just too far E and on the downslope side of the Allegheny Ridge. Nickle and dime city. The average per year is higher than places to the SE but it's nails on a chalkboard to get there. Prepare to be annoyed countless more times. Anyway congrats to the S PA crew that are having a good storm.

Hilarious that such a top meteorology school is in such a torturous place for snow.

Those lighter returns will still yield some decent snows with great ratios, assuming they make it over the mts.

Sorry, I am not positive enough to reply.

PS-  You were right this AM.  After this snow it is going to torch and we are all going to be gardening in a week or two.  My negativity on snow chances the rest of the month does not below here.

And to be fair, you’d be the most positive person in the MA thread on most days.
