Wife and I went out for our annual Christmas Eve drive to look at people's light displays. Was surprised that much of our drive was in rain.

I wonder. Is there any kind of recorded history of the correlation of white Christmases to snowy winters? We managed to hang onto an inch or so of snow from Friday and Yesterday for a rare white Christmas.

I did not see any stats on it but did see the NWS definition is at least 1" on the ground at 7AM re: 1/2" is not a White Christmas in their records.

White Christmas at MDT since 1970 that cheats and does not require 1"

It’s official, Santa visited KMJS last night and the kids couldn’t be happier. Man, few things in this world more magical than the excitement of a child on Xmas morning. Low of 32 and half the backyard still has a smattering of snow. It doesn’t get any better than this. Now let’s find some storms to track. Merry Christmas to all you crazy weather cats!

The best is when they still believe in Santa Claus and seeing the look on your faces when “he” delivered all the presents under the tree. I will always remember that.

Christmas was best when I believed in Santa, too. There was a special magic to Christmas back in those years.

I'm so glad it remained overcast today. Most of the snow would have been toast if it got sunny. Hope tomorrow is dark and overcast as well. For some reason, I prefer cloudy to sunny on Christmas Day.

Doesn't look like I'll get my wish, though.

Christmas Day
Sunny, with a high near 36. North wind 3 to 5 mph.

So far my wish came true. Still a solid gray overcast here in Tamaqua...

MDT has a shot to stay below 40 tomorrow.  That was a very common occurrence in the past until 2011 when the faucet shut off only happening 3 times in the next 13 years. It happened 8 of the 10 1960's years.  The two years it did not stay below 40 in the 1960's, it got into the 60's.

MDT failed in this endeavor.  Made it to 42 where I was in Dillsburg.  40 in Rou.  LNS bolted into the mid 40's.   This weekend looks undesirable weather wise.   Rain and 40's Sat, rain and 60's Sun.
