That was a very common occurrence in the past until 2011 when the faucet shut off only happening 3 times in the next 13 years. It happened 8 of the 10 1960's years. The attached photo is from the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer from Christmas Day 1966. The previous evening delivered the biggest Christmas Eve snowstorm across the area. This was a dynamic storm that included frequent lightning and thunder to go along with the heavy snow. Totals from the 1966 Christmas Eve Blizzard ranged from 10" at Honey Brook to as much as 22" at West Chester. This followed a storm just 4 days earlier that delivered as much as 11" of snow at Devault. Both West Chester and Devault recorded over 32" of snow that snowy Christmas Week! The greatest snowstorm of the Christmas Season delivered even more snow to the area. That storm began at 8am on Christmas Day in 1909 at Coatesville with Mr. WT. Gordon the cooperative observer for the Weather Bureau reporting 13" by 9pm Christmas Night....another 25" would fall between 9pm and when the snow stopped the next morning at 630am. Don't remember the 1966 one living near BWI, though I do remember an event in 2/67 with the most mesmerizing, huge snowflakes as I staired incessantly outside from my classroom wall of windows. Odd, because I remember the 66' Blizzard, probably from digging so many tunnels with my brother through the 4-5' drifts on the side of our house. I definitely remember the Christmas 1969 snowstorm, also near BWI. My father kept telling me to "stop turning around" as I kept looking outside while in church. Most of the snow would have been toast if it got sunny. Hope tomorrow is dark and overcast as well. For some reason, I prefer cloudy to sunny on Christmas Day. But that's how we learn and get more skillful . Those who are a long time followers of this page and website know that over the last 30 years it has become a clear that the big events when they happen are often detectable more than a week out.
