Low was reached around 2 am then temps climbed overnight to the current 19.8/10.0 at 8 am with high cirrus in the sky. Woodstove has gotten a heck of a good workout last few days. So has mine, way ahead of last year with wood consumption.

87storms
Quality sunset here...and quality weather in general. We had a couple of bake-off's at work this week, so I definitely needed my basketball sessions today.
Hank Scorpio
Agreed, excellent sunset. Portions had an appearance almost like ripped paper, or like fire had just started to burn through a piece of paper. Were these the elusive lacunosus clouds? I'd never seen them before
pazzo83
Cold, but honestly these are all above freezing (and DC at 37F). 4

Eskimo Joe
12z GFS trended well for folks west of I-81. Would probably be a solid advisory level event, IMO.

Today we blew through the 50s to top out at 64 imby. No one was under 60 except near the bay or in the mountains.

I've resigned myself to regular snowless winters in these parts within the next decade. It's just stunning how winter has evaporated in these parts.

But it's far more fleeting than it was when we were kids (at least around here), and before long it reverts to the default: warm. At least empirically, it seems something has flipped in the past 5 years or so. The number of nights at or below freezing has fallen off a cliff. We don't set record lows anymore. Event his recent cold shot, while cold, wasn't anything to write home about. Lows in the teens and 20s with highs in the 30s and 40s were commonplace not too long ago at this time of year. One of the local news mets was talking about how this was the coldest first week of Dec since 2005. But it was the fifth coldest first week since 2000. So, uh, prior to 2005 it seems practically every year was colder. 1
