Eskimo Joe
Off and on snow flurries in New Windsor today. I'm just glad it's not upper 60s and pacific puke this winter. While it's great to have a ton of snow, I'm quite happy to not be staring down weeks of zonal flow and bad air quality. Hopefully the rest of winter can shake out to our benefit and everyone can at least manage climo snowfall. Considering how the past several winters have been, that would be a victory in my book.
IronTy
And this cabin is new for you this year?It will be when it's done. I'm figuring it'll be complete in February most likely. Unfortunately a bit late for this season. Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk

That would make Dec 6th and 7th the median dates meaning either the 6th or 7th features the earliest sunset. At Dulles Int'l Airport the earliest that the sun sets is at 4:47pm from December 1st through December 11th. That would make Dec 6th the median date. I'm getting the same median dates for the earliest sunset everywhere I look with the 6th winning over the 7th. Therefore, the absolute earliest sunset occurred today on the 6th. There will be a few more seconds (probably 1-3 seconds) of evening light tomorrow... not that anyone other than a super ultra weenie nerd like me would notice. 2

MillvilleWx
Warrenton ASOS already down to 12F at the 2AM report. Going to be a lot of low-20s to upper teens readings across the sub-forum. Already have a nice cold pocket over the area NE of DC up through the 295 corridor. 21-23F readings for a long stretch. Herb@MAWS
Was in a cabin M-F in Keysers Ridge/Grantsville area (2830’ at cabin) 10mi NE of Accident. Monday hi 20, all-day flurries/snow showers. Tuesday hi 22, same conditions Wed. hi 32 by late in afternoon, sunny a.m. but high solid overcast p.m. Snow developed at night but never saw blizzard conditions or whiteouts (both forecasted). Got about 3”-4” snow at cabin but NWS “official” reports were up to 6.5” as of Thursday morning’s LWX PNS. Thursday mostly cloudy and high temp 18 with light non-accumulating snow all day, then 1” snow Thursday overnight. Friday— morning flurries, low teens before bugging out in PM. Overall impressions of Grantsville wx: At 2,800’+ was not surprised temps ran 10-20 degrees colder than back home. Snowed most of the time each day. Flakes in the air even when not accumulating. It just wants to snow in Grantsville. Very few breaks of sun this week and even when sun came out there were still flakes in the air. Snow/no-snow line traveling west and then returning home was a bit east of Frostburg exit on I-68. A totally different weather world west of Frostburg.
BlizzardNole
Makes me wonder what it would be like if western MD had 4,000 to 5,000 foot elevations. Pretty sunrise and 26 this morning. Get out them grills for tomorrow!
wxdude64
First day with temps not getting out of the 20's, 29.6 high, 14.9 low with gusty NW/W breezes. Low was reached around 2 am then temps climbed overnight to the current 19.8/10.0 at 8 am with high cirrus in the sky. Woodstove has gotten a heck of a good workout last few days. IronTy
18 hours ago, WEATHER53 said: But isn’t it hard for remote cabins down a lane? The electric + septic was close to $100k. Unfortunately the county required it to be underground which means about half a mile of trenching through rock from the nearest utility pole. Septic was similar rock hammering. But it's done now so that's good and it nice not to have to worry about falling trees taking down my lines. Electric panel is powered up but only the propane furnace is energized. Well and septic are complete but the well pump hasn't been turned on so we've just been using a portajohn and bringing water with us. In January they should get all that stuff completed.
