I did mention hating them lol. They never work out, but when they do... fun times. They normally make epic bust for our area.

Nothing more annoying than going through a model run seeing that dang low transfer pass gas over central MD with maybe a few pity flakes, and then go off to the races juuuust E/NE <_< Nah give me that S-T-J (OR crazy 1996 blocking to force the NS under us )

Oh I remember lots of tears as a kid from Miller B's. I remember one year when I was about 19yo. I had a blizzard party one night. It was susposed to set in around 8pm. My friends and I had our beers, sleds, joints and were partying down waiting on the snow. My buddy goes out around 8 for a cigarette and comes back in and says the sky is clear and the moon is out. We all go outside and see the full moon. I go downstairs and wait for the local on the 8's to see radar. The storm exploded to far NE and just missed us. It lit NY city up. It was so depressing lol

I know everyone here hates Miller B storms, myself included, for obvious reasons. If they do work out for us they are one of the funnest storms to watch unfold. Once that energy transfer takes place and you start seeing the wavy banding forming as the radar blossoms. That's usually when that NNE wind start moving and the snow starts falling in sheets, and than the snow fog sets in and it's on. It's been forever since I've seen this. I like the big shields coming from the south from a Miller A, but nothing beats that blossoming of heavy snow. One of the best radar presentations I've ever seen of an incoming storm was Jan 25, 2000. That was a blossoming shield rushing in from the SE.

second Feb blizzard 2010 was basically a miller B fully realized for a bunch of us (not all, less happiness south and west of DC)

Oh totally. And it basically was a screw job here like normal. I only got about 3". That was on top of almost 3' so I wasn't that bitter. The wind that morning was awesome though. It looked like the tundra here in the lowlands.

Now how was that one able to work out? Was it able to get under the blocking that we had?

Extreme blocking regime. Trapped the energy in just the right spot so it didn’t escape/form further NE like it usually does. And, again, even with that the farther south and west parts of our area got hosed compared to the beltways - - see @dailylurker ‘s post.

If you want to peruse the maps from that second Feb 2010 storm and pieces of energy involved - this is a good read -

And to remind of the orientation of heaviest snows in that storm, here’s a link the snow totals - check out Howard County to get a feel for the way it fell off -

Some of the remarks in that PNS are great.  5-6’ drifts across northern MD, 40 mph winds in Loudoun County, and 46” on the ground in Mt Storm, WV.

WOW, Mt Bachelor! 7 inches snow last night! 7 MORE today! IT'S POURING FRESHIES!!

In other depressing news, it is pouring heavy RAIN at 9000 feet at Palisades Tahoe! What a slopfest! Skiers are slushing around with snow sticking to their skis! Get out of there! Head for Mount Bachelor! Free refills and lots of deep stashes! Stay out of tree wells!

@bncho - Whether it was a joke or not - I know people PW share for various streaming services all the time - but it's not a wise idea to publicly post about sharing account logins for a pay site.

While WxBell can be great, there are countless free sites that are excellent - and some pay sites for models that are also very robust.

Many of them also carry free trials or different tiered plans.

TropicalTidbits is great for the free stuff, Pivotal Weather is a solid pay site (that's the one I use).

Just some friendly guidance to a relatively new poster on the forums. Just use your best judgment!

Philly got another 3” on the 12th, after the blizzard.   I visited the city a week or so later when the flooding happened. Can still recall seeing the Schuylkill River at bank full.  What an extreme month that was !

I went back to college from winter break just after that second storm, which blasted the Lewisburg area. Folks in and around the town were shoveling their roofs and Rt. 15 was two lanes only with the snow piled 6-8’ on the sides of the road.

Of course, we had the warmup and major flood on the Susquehanna a a week later, with a refreeze right after. Crazy stuff!

With possible busy times ahead (while we aren't there quite yet - it could be here before you know it) - probably a good time to give a friendly nudge to new posters who haven't endured an active period on here.

We all get excited about weather - it's a weather forum, after all! But as things get more hectic, it'll get more and more important to keep the banter-ish stuff here and the serious pattern discussion and meteorological discussion in the main threads. It's obviously a bit looser when things aren't ramped up yet - but that can change in a hurry.

Above all - just remember that post counts don't mean crap. Don't post just for the sake of posting because you feel like inflating your visibility will make you a "regular" quicker. It's okay to lurk and learn. We all can get wound up in the excitement, but a the heart of it - most of us love to learn from the pros and mets and knowledgable posters. When things get serious here - last thing we need is to have to sift through pages of garbage to get to the outstanding posts that some of the veterans of AmWx have to contribute.

I got 5-posted by Randy due to machine-gun posting stupid shit in my excitement back in 2009-2010. Took like a year to get my full posting rights back.

Just figured I’d throw that out there.

I was weenie tagged in the Eastern days for being a severe thunderstorm weenie. Learned my lesson real quick!

I can't wait for the one random run coming up of the gfs that shows the whole pattern breaking down and Chuck posting it saying these maps always bust warmer than shown

It looks like it's a legitimate cold pattern coming up. The state of the PNA really makes a big difference.
