Very heavy returns around Fort Wayne at the moment. My goodness you don’t see reflectivity like that often in late December

Getting hammered with a second line now. We have been getting some serious rain in the past few days. Good bye drought.

Seems underdone. Map shows western Pennsylvania near normal, but the actual departure at Pittsburgh is +2.7F, likely to finish at least +3F with today factored into the mix. Which also secures an incredible, presumably record-breaking 18th consecutive month of warmer than normal temperatures in this record-shatteringly hot year which undoubtely far exceeds anything ever observed in even the lifetime of the oldest great-great grandparent of the oldest person alive today.

And then I had to drive 100 miles to go to my family Christmas party! (Not at 6:00AM though.)

The end of December precipitation is like a month worth of precipitation. There were lakes in fields on my trip yesterday. Up to 3.32" (not shown) in two spots in NW Ohio over this time frame.

Definitely needed RainX on that drive haha! It's definitely the soupiest it's been here in months, I think folks forget just how dry our Summer and Fall were. The severe thunderstorm spigot pretty much turned off after April

The "entrenched cold" nonsense was pretty funny

It’s all about timing. Here we ended up about .7 degrees above normal(so essentially normal) with about 15 inches of snow. The torch at the very end of the  month is obviously what took it into the positive departures albeit barely. So overall not a bad winter month here.

Similar story in Michigan. Grand Rapids fell a little short of 2012, but record-breaking warmth was widespread throughout the state. I think the most impressive thing about 2024 is near the uniformity of record-breaking warmth. Some of the prior records dated to recent years (2021, 2023, 2017), a number from 2012 but a few were as old as 1921 & 1931.
