Low temp of 12 here this morning. Tonight will be the first night of the season that we get down to single digits here. Wouldn't be surprised if we get down to 5.

My forecast low is 11 for tomorrow. Seems like it will go single digits especially with some snow cover

Piscataway will probably go a little lower than Plainfield but yeah, I'd be surprised if you don't get down to high single digits.

No one disagrees about the historic warmth (well except the deniers who cant handle their snow being taken away). But the ski area discussion hold pertinent to our subforum for the same reasons you just stated. Not to mention that it’s noteworthy considering their last few seasons and the struggles they have had. Tie that into many people not understanding where our subforum actually encompasses and having been implied or flat out told my obs dont matter, it becomes a bigger narrative and issue.

Yeah, I agree. That’s why my posts often take in regional, national, and global influences to add context. Since the local forecasts are heavily influenced by the larger patterns. Never understood why anyone would want to define the geographic range of this forum so narrowly as to ever state that your obs don’t matter. I appreciate what the people in your area of the forum add to the discussion. I like to think that anyone in the OKX, PHI, BGM, ALB, or even the bordering BOX NWS forecast zones should be able to feel at home in the forum and that their posts add value.

i do not know if anyone has mentioned in days are getting longer now...sun looked a little brighter today...

Earth's orbit is more elliptical, meaning we are in a somewhat "flattened" part of the orbit.  So we should have the same amount of sun for a day or two?

that one on 11/22 in 2018 really stands out, was that one of the earliest ones on record, Chris?

Yeah, November 2018 had impressive snow and cold for so early in the season. It was the 5th earliest date that NYC dropped under 20°. While the winter still averaged warmer than normal, NYC almost made it to 0° in late January.

Temperatures still in the teens in the Hudson Valley and single digits in the Catskills. 21 here. If the wind dies off, could be some below zero readings in the coldest spots tonight.

The snow cover will help with radiating too-if we keep winds calm. Temps having trouble getting over 20 here, like how late Dec should be!

Only 11 here. Yesterday’s forecast for today was a high of 20, now it’s adjusted down to a high of 15. Zero for tonight, hot tub time!!

I think that was the last time we were below 5? I can't remember any time since then that it happened.

I thought normal for late December was in the 40s lol

Late December has been shooting up faster in temps in the last 20 years than early-we almost always get a big warmup around now. This is a refreshing change and with actual snow on the ground even better.

The last time Central Park was below 5° was February 4, 2023 (3°). JFK's last time was February 4, 2023 (4°). LGA's last time was January 31, 2019 (3°).
