It loses its appeal very quickly.  Stresses heating systems, cars, etc.  It's good to face the challenge, but once or twice per winter is enough for me.

it really never appeals to me to begin with.   no one's asking me for my opinion of course, just my commiserate contribution

if it is like this while lacking any event cinemas once we get past the holidays i really just hope for cc to fight back and go shock and awe early balm and end it

My mother in law who is 93 has one of those huge clock looking thermometers that's off by about 8 degrees too low and she thinks it accurate. She probably had -10 last night on that thing.

Those things are more trouble than they're worth.  And the thermometers are pretty useless, too.

Thoughts and prayers to the ASOS. A good +7F today.

How long has it been that bad? Even the very very lenient “within 2F” margin they use on calibration would fail miserably. Cant imagine why it hasn’t been axed and replaced yet.

We need to put a putting green around it to get Mekster on it.

Cuz that’s where the records are taken for that area I’d imagine.

Somewhere around there.

This is ugly. Looks like somewhere near this 7/1 it got really bad. NSFW

Isn't this sort of critical for aviation? Like icing and stuff? Seems crazy a sensor can be allowed to stray that much when it's purpose is mainly aviation..

Almost a 2F step change in July after what looks like a very slow drift down before that (which may or may not just be an artifact of local mesonets coming online…but usually a prolonged drift is not from new mesonets.)

Congrats everyone on higher heating costs

And DAW has been consistently 5F too warm all night. @OceanStWx can we just unplug the ASOS so Pope can’t use it?

I wish I actually had more info from the techs on this. It's been nearly daily that AOMC is calling us to let us know there have been failures on some sensors or another.

@OceanStWx talks about that game since he went to it. It was so cold the beers were freezing in the stands if you didn’t keep drinking them.

I've been to two classic winter Titans games. The 2004 coldest Pats game, top 20 coldest NFL game AND the 2009 59-0 October snow game.

But yes, too cold run a tap line from a keg so all beer was served out of bottles/cans. The head on the beer would freeze between sips, so you would have to poke your finger through the get the next gulp.

Another board member who only drinks beer for the taste and not the alcohol content. We seem to have a lot of those around here...
