kids are more interested in tik tok

Yeah, I see much less interest in snow (or anything weather/nature related) with the kids these days.  For many of them, they wouldn't recognize a foot of snow if they were walking through it. There are some wonderful exceptions, however, and they stand out to me.

I have way more memories of snow on Thanksgiving than Christmas.

The 8" on Christmas 2017 (and 1978 in Fort Kent) is about it for snow on that day, but have more on Christmas Eve, especially the 15" thunderblizzard in 1966.

Only T-Day snow that comes to mind was 2005, only 3.6" but the snow-starved kids (then living in SC) enjoyed 8 hours of steady daytime flakes.  Only later did we learn of the 2 tornados on the midcoast that day.

4" of snow in NYC in 1989 at my parents house.  I think we had snow on the ground for Christmas in 1998. Again in NYC.

This is in Northern Queens.

Looking back at weather records.  2" of snowfall was recorded in Central Park on 12/24/98.

I couldn’t tell you anything about Christmas 2002—the gifts I got or what we did. But I can picture the snowy landscape outside about as vividly as it if it happened yesterday. Funny how memories work.

My memory is Christmas 2002 sucked because it was cancelled for rain. And I was 23.

I was thigh deep in glory with like 20” falling in 12 hours on Xmas afternoon and evening near ALB.

Will never top that.  Last winter living in ALB and it produced 50” in 10 days between 12/25 and 1/4.

If you can cue up a period to get 4 feet of snow, the holiday week takes the cake.

I remember a good storm I think it was 1977 about 2-3 days before Christmas and then an arctic front blew in blowing the snow around, that was a last minute save and it was a decent snowfall, Will would remember.

He’ll look it up, or remember from studying it, but he wasn’t born yet.
