It’s somewhat quacky.  I’ve come to realize that the main driver of longevity is luck.  But I had an old friend nearing 100 in good shape who always said that people with a sunny disposition who can manage the inevitable crises of life live longer.   Attia makes some good points but a lot of it is just common sense.  I’m 78 and fine and frankly convinced that it’s mainly due to luck plus privilege plus the determination to ignore people’s advice and power through aches and pains.  Prioritize strength training, walking at least 5 miles per day, omnivore eating, and fiber.  I’ve prioritized fiber now for 50 years based on readings when I was in my late 20s.  The worst is processed foods and sugar.  Also statins for many of us are wonder drugs.

My dad's diet is alcohol, soda, Mcdonalds often and I don't believe he has ever exercised, in his adult life anyway. 92 and a half and welded the leaf spring on a pickup truck last month.

* life long barfly too therefore has to inhaled the equivelant of a full time smoker lol

I had many older relatives that had similar lifestyles and lived much longer than healthier people I knew.  Genetics obviously in play.  I knew so many tough old Lithuanians growing up who drank beer daily and ate high fat diets.

You’re still in your mid 30s. The fat will come.

Me reading this having just turned 21 lol. I think I'm in the minority of this forum. I watched a show about centenarians at the beginning of the year and it seems like its a combo of genetics, a natural diet, consistent (not necessarily extreme) exercise, and positive mental health. I kind of believe the more urban your environment, the harder it is to live a long life. Also trying to actively reduce my meat consumption, not because meat is naturally unhealthy, but the overwhelming majority of the meat available in this country is far to processed to be worth eating over other sources of protein. Gym attendance is unsustainable long term. It's much better to find ways of working activity into daily life that's enjoyable outside of purely for the fitness. Hoping to commute by bicycle once I get to grad school and afterwards (cars are expensive, unnecessary, and environmentally problematic obviously).

The GFS has been throwing some pretty significant precipitation into the cold air Dec 24 - 26. ECM and CMC to a lesser extent, but with a similar idea. Wherever the warm front boundary sets up could get some sneaky good snows (and/or ice) around Christmas. Early guess would be CNY through CNE. Still way out there though.

Cmc is colder and weaker

My joking aside, yeah, there’s a signal for something in a very good antecedent airmass. I was speculating the other day that if we can’t get this weekend to produce, given how fast the flow is we could have a shot at another shortwave right around the holiday itself. Still a long shot in my mind but I like the trend of something tangible moving into the region.

Honestly, we don’t need much. Any weak system that puts 2-3 down on the holiday for most would be excellent.

You’re very young yet…some of your ideas will change as you age into a more experienced adult.

I’ve made the gym sustainable for about 40 years now(still going), but that’s just me. To each their own. Automobiles are necessary for alot of us, but again do what’s best for you. Everything in moderation and balance is a decent way to approach many things. All the best to you.

My uncle checked all 3 of those boxes (all 4 if you include 'tough'), and he died of an MI at 50.  If we're lucky we have some control, but it's also a genetic lottery.

38/36 here after 61 this afternoon.

This.

Also I want to add that rural living people have worse health outcomes primarily due to the lack of access to care.  It is much more common for doctors to stay in the city or suburbs.  So while rural living may be healthier in many ways, people have less access to healthy food, poorer internet connectivity, poor access to doctors.  This country needs to prioritize equalizing broadband for everyone-it is a necessity.  We also should be giving incentives for medical providers to care for rural based patients.  Honestly whenever I think of moving seriously rural I run into the conundrum of how to care for my wife and I as we get older and older.  So we stay put.

Ya - despite having that event in December 2020 the season total in Hartford that season ended up at 30"....well below the 50" or so average......Hartford hasn't had a normal total since 2018-19.....and here we are about to lose December and the first half of January.....so theres only 6 weeks to get it done......pathetic the last half decade - so even in the CTRV that all youse like to remind me I live in it has been pathetic.......time to get shit going again

No, that season was around +/- 45" in the hartford area, which is only slightly blo avg for BDL. You're remembering the Dec 2020 blizzard but not the Feb one? Feb was amazing, not only for that blizzard but the other snowstorms that month and a full month of deep snowpack.05_01.21_jdj_v3_sne_seasonal_snowfall.thumb.jpg.7add721d02345a1937491095664d906b.jpg02_01.21_jdj_v3_snowfall_totals.thumb.jpg.a1af45d750f99ef181b326ed7215bbbe.jpg02_07.21_jdj_v3_snowfall_totals.thumb.jpg.6cea92c75022901ef56bebca7571030e.jpg

I finished at 44.4” in 2020-21. No other season since 2018-19 has come close.

yep. its on that seasonal map. 20-21 was really our only good season since 17-18. Every other season has been a straight up rat or like a D. We've had 3 straight seasons of ratters. The past 3 seasons has to be the worst 3 year stretch of our lives, i can't think of anything worse (3 years in a row).

What’s terrifying is that folks said last year couldn’t possibly be worse than the one before, and absent a miracle it would have been. I really do think it’s possible to go sub 10” here if this truly is a decade-long slide.

IDK dude….that season wasn’t memorable like 2010-11…..that’s all I know…..that season we were so pissed off about the Boxing Day disaster but then the shit hit the fan and January 2011 fucking owned…..collapsed roofs everywhere…..the only regret was that it didn’t last into at least the first week of February but that’s ok….that season was the gold standard here for the last 50 years…..nothing has come close…..

I tell ya, it felt pretty damn nice walking outside earlier in a light jacket without feeling the sting of the cold and wind in my face. I know its not to be expected this time of year but man I don’t how anyone truly enjoys freezing their balls off in the bitter cold, without the snow to brighten the landscape. I think the little yipper appreciates the brief reprieve too..lots of long sniffs on the side of the road during our walk!

This drone s*** is getting out of hand. Should I walk towards the light?

Drone freak-outs don't give humanity much hope in accepting the flying car that most of us have grown up seeing as the future on the cover of Popular Mechanics magazine in the 1980's/ 90's, and even back into the 50's.

Imagine a world like depicted in movies, Back To The Future 2, or The 5th Element?  People will lose their minds on a daily basis.

33 and rains.. This should have our interest though.. Been very steady in guidance.. have to push the boundary a bit south / best christmas threat in 7 years

If I recall most models had us too warm around here for Monday morning, even 12-24 hrs before go time. Definitely underestimated the cold, maybe they will be off again, but who knows at this point.

wouldn't take much tbh... 2-3 degrees cooler across the board at the midlevels would do it with wetbulbing
