Snow showers in NE TN.  Models had this.  It was completely ignored.

The director of school's statement here literally read "As completely unexpected snow has developed, we are canceling schools for the remainder of the day." All modeling had 1/2 to 1 inch in the area. JKL put out an SPS about it last night and put it in their forecast. MRX didn't put anything out and used the flurries wording.  When they put those products out they are sent to County EMAs who share them.

MRX put out an SPS after schools were closed here. Not sure why they chose to ignore modeling.

Just another reason it so important for MRX to put out those statements and weather products: school districts rely on them. I have noticed schools are way more likely close with some sort of product or statement issued.

Of course, you could always ignore them like Knox County did this week.

A winter observation, we didn't get nearly as much snow as we normally should've for a January that's -10ish. I mean not even 50 percent of what a January like that normally brings. My electric bill came today and it's 200 percent of normal. So there's that.

Same here. Even with the upcoming warmup we will probably still wind up -8 to -10 for the Month.  We Penny'd and Nickled our way to 14.5 inches for the Season.  .2 of that coming today. Month right at 10". Went to downtown Jonesville around 2 Today and a heavy Snow shower deposited between a quarter and half inch there that quickly melted from solar heating.

Looking back here in the last 100ish years, we never had a January that was more than -8 that had less than 16 inches of snow. I'm at 9.5 for the month, precip is well BN.

I'm afraid to look at mine.

Temps are much lower tonight vs forecast again. Forecast low was 34 imby, it's 27 currently.

Medium Range is understandable but, short range Models should be better. Work needs done to more accurately depict Temperature difference in Mountain Valleys. It would be hard but, can be done better .

Official Weather Stations are part of the Problem. Not nearly enough within these area's. PWS's are not used in the Model ingest System. COOP Station's that supposedly meet NWS Standards are. Not gonna rehash problems with those as have mentioned before let alone the less than desirable accuracy of the ASOS Station's.

It is highly unlikely we'll ever have the accuracy from Models we could possibly have due to these Issues as funding just won't be available to fix some and QC may not ever be inforced regarding the sighting problems.
