The difference between the 3k NAM and the HRRR, the former of which shows some fairly scenic snow TV for all of Friday afternoon for most of the subforum, is largely the 925mb level. Also a slightly colder surface. The better runs of the globals/HRRR had the precip moving in earlier in the day. Now that it's later, the column isn't quite as snazzy, but 3k keeps it good everywhere but the surface. Others do not, but it's very close.

weenies looking at 10:1 maps lol I love this place

they make me happy! and show the metric I'm interested in - which is more snow falling from the sky. my expectation remains 0.00" of stickage anywhere within 30 miles of DCA. Hope others feel similarly, would be foolish to expect more. Think you're good for 1" though :snowing:

Tbh, seeing snow around here in November is pretty common...I'd estimate every 2-3 years we'll get at least white rain.  So I wouldn't be too surprised.  It's the setup that seems a little unusual, but we've had an unusual year...so there's that.

Want to know how it gets almost 3” just north of DC but only .5” for nw Carroll and most of Adams county lol.

Precip shadow due to downsloping off the catoctins.  The precip hole is on every run.  The 3kNAM sometimes over does this feature some, but its a real thing with this wind trajectory.  NW Carroll gets less snow than surrounding areas due to the shadow effect with ridges to either side of them.

Nice! Ring cameras at the house show light snow with a dusting on the grass.

Things look to crank tomorrow/night. The drive tomorrow afternoon looks fun.

I need access to your Ring pronto.

Totally realistic 10:1 euro snow map gives @mappy and @psuhoffman over 3”.

12z runs seemed to have moved start time back up to 12-14z, so better temps to work with.

WB NAM gives mby 1-2” but TT shows no accumulation the south side of the potomac. Probably more realistic. My bar is snow TV, no accums.
