Nice to have a cold column and surface temps for once. Felt like every event last year was a drippy slush fest. I know that’s going to change this afternoon, but dammit I’ll enjoy it for now.

Yep, overperforming a bit in west Madison IMO. Roads have been a mess with at least two crashes closing I-94 between Madison and Milwaukee for long stretches of time.

4" of wet heavy snow here in Eastern WI this morning, starting to switch over to rain now. Great to see the white gold again.

Got very lucky (for this area) as a small area of snow set up this morning and hung around for a few hours.  Some HI-Rez models did hinted at it.  Definitely not what WI into IL are getting but definitely enjoyable to see snow falling most of this morning!!  Great to see snow in the lower lakes area.  Enjoy WI and IL peeps!!

Just a note on forecast expectations into this afternoon.
Recent reports indicate up to 3" of snow in Lake and Cook
Counties, with moderate to heavy snow continuing to fall,
including 1/4 mile visibility at KMDW as of this writing. Also
seeing less than 1/4 mile visibilty at KGYY and KIGQ. A look
well upstream shows primarily snow hanging on up until central
Wisconsin, where the transition to light rain and drizzle has
taken place from a combination of warming temps and decreasing
cloud ice.

The overall trend is a slower rise in temps over the next
couple hours and correspondingly the ptype transition taking a
bit longer as well. Warming cloud tops punching south from
southeast Wisconsin will steadily diminish snowfall rates into
the Chicago metro, and then bring the anticipated changeover to
light rain and drizzle in the 2-3pm timeframe. While snow will
hang on a bit longer than earlier forecasts, little (up to a
couple tenths) to no additional accumulation is expected after
noon for most of the Chicago metro. Thus, not currently seeing
any reason to change the advisory end time of 1pm.

Lake and Cook Counties will definitely be the winner with this, where that better banding has been in place for longer. May be able to add DuPage County into that as well.

A bit further west, a little over 1” here so far in North Aurora (I moved from Naperville in September).

Temp has bumped up to around freezing and rates have dropped off - we’re probably done accumulating. Unscientific slant-sticking technique yields around 4” including almost an inch last night. Great kickoff to winter! Gotta love dogs in snow.

Yeah woke up to a dusting then had mood flakes all morning. Nice to see.

Can’t underestimate solid rates and early winter sun angle, even in the furnace that is downtown. Roads are clear now but earlier today I hadn’t seen Wacker this bad in years

Biggest event/storm totals were >2" on two occasions in January.
