Happy November! November really is the North American descent into winter. At Detroit, no month of the year has a larger difference in average temperature from the first to last day of the month than November. The next closest is May.

In the last 3 months, Zanesville, Ohio had its 5th and 7th [which would have been 6th prior to August] driest months on record. Will be interesting to see what November holds.

Interestingly, although perhaps not too surprisingly, despite being 7th driest of any month, October 2024 was only 4th driest October on record. August 2024 was the driest of any month since October 1924, and only August 2024 and October 1963 were drier than October 2024 since that date.

At Columbus, October 2024 was the 8th driest month on record [6th driest October]. Was just 0.02" above 5th place [3rd for October]. It was the driest of any month in 61 years.

The period from June 1 continues to run as 2nd driest on record behind only 1930.

Looks like Election day will be a little wet for some. My forecast in the Holiday Thread looks close. Nov 9 starts the MN Deer Hunting opener (aka rifle season, as there is a bow season as well), and I'm expecting LP/front in the region with HP pushing in over the weekend.

With a mild November in store, hoping we get a taste of winter around Thanksgiving. Considering the odd mismatch the past decade of cold, snowy Novembers and mild low snow Decembers, wouldnt mind a mild November if we get some fun times in December. Love to see a bit of a reversal this year.

Is that spot in southeast Ohio the most extreme color on the drought monitor?

No signs of a first freeze throughout the first half of the month and perhaps beyond.

Yes. My understanding is that it's crazy dry down there.

Not a fan of changing clocks, but tonight is the night. Dark at 5pm sucks. Worse N of me so I guess can't complain too much.

Almost dropped down to freezing this morning. Lowest temperature so far this Fall is 33.

We've already had 8 freezes here including several hard ones.  No first flakes in sight however.

We’ve had a lot of frost and a few freezes here too. Even though October was above normal, I think all of the dryness helped with colder nights.

The GFS doesn't even have Chicago dropping below 40 for the next two weeks, absolutely wild.

We’ve got a little bet going on at the house if we’ll be able to golf into December. She buys my round if we do, I’ve got to buy dinner if we cannot. Highs still consistently in the 60s thru week 1

Quite a few frosts here too, some heavy. Dtw official low has been 33, it's unbelievable they didn't drop below freezing on 10/23 considering all nearby stations were in the 20s, but that's what concrete at an airport will do.

I’ve been watching this. Beating the Nov 24th latest first freeze for Chicago would only make sense with it being the warmest year on record.

 I have been very busy that past couples days and the models have shifted significantly west with the rain.   My QPF for the next 3 days gone from a few inches to a few hundredths of an inch!!!   

Good part is today I can get more leaves mulched up with some nice mild temps

Drove through there in September.  It was truly Exceptional!!

I got an inch overnight, going for another inch today from the second wave.  My area has done extremely well over the last ten days.
