Magnitude and duration of course are up in the air, with the core maybe east of us. Discuss. I’ll bite. Unfortunately for you and us in the Midwest, the angle of the cold may be too far east again…even if centered a bit further west than the recent cold. Hopefully you guys can get in on some upslope as the cold presses down, but otherwise the baroclinic zone may again be too far south for any meaningful precipitation north of 40N. Dry and very cold would be wonderful if there were snow cover, but it feels wasted with bare ground. Still a ways out, so plenty of time for changes. mayjawintastawm
Looking more like a "normal" deep freeze, like we get more or less yearly, with 0.2" to 0.4" QPF to make things white (and drop nighttime temps) on the front end. Still, below zero Sat night-Sun night with even a breath of wind will make it less than comfy for sure.
Chinook
2-4" with a drop to -2 degrees. Don't worry, my place in Ohio will get to -2 degrees also. I took the Pike's Peak Railway once

ValpoVike
It's going to get cold for sure. Interestingly, I have noted over the past several years that January 10th-17th almost always features extreme cold for the front range. Last year it was on January 13th, with -19 recorded here. I don't have specifics for other years logged for my location, but I did start a log last year. It will be interesting to see in a few years how it holds up.

Yeah I haven't really kept track formally (though posts here would probably fill the data in) but just from memory, this week is often the coldest, with a secondary minimum the second week of Feb. mayjawintastawm
Snow quite anemic so far. 2 inches in 6 hours, and radar looks underwhelming. 19 F at my house.

ValpoVike
Useless but interesting fact - My wife is visiting family in Wasilla, Alaska this weekend, and currently it is 30 degrees warmer than my current temp of 7.

smokeybandit
Back down to -10 after a high of 4. Looks like the low will be early in night though then start to "warm" up by dawn.
mayjawintastawm
Interesting who radiated and who didn't... anyplace with a downslope wind (e.g. here, only got to -4) didn't radiate much but places that were calm went as low as -16 or 17.
smokeybandit
Another (barely) subzero low for me. Oddly, schools operating on time despite having a delay Tuesday for warmer temps.

I think when schools hear "low as low as -15" they think it will happen at 7 AM, when the other day the low was around or even before midnight, and by 7 it was around zero. And this AM there was a little breeze too, was walking the dog.
Chinook
New winter weather advisory (most snow just west of I-25) I guess Mayjawintastawm finally got his CPC-predicted cold wave from the end of December, predicted from Jan. 1 to 7.
