Picard Posted yesterday at 01:53 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:53 AM Left work at 8:15 - just rain, but drove a mile and a half to a slightly higher elevation and the snow quickly commenced. Back in Sparta, about 0.3" OTG with moderate snow and 32.7F @800 feet. Everything is coated and the roads are getting a little slush under the higher rates. If it keeps up heavy enough, we'll definitely see some road issues overnight. Salt spreaders were out doing their thing.

Picard Posted yesterday at 02:13 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:13 AM About 0.5" Street out front is covered. Looks like the radar has some staying power. It's going to be interesting.
eduggs Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM At 8:30 in central Morris County near I-287 I observed first mixing with snow at about 500ft and 36F and first slight dusting at about 850ft and 34.5F. On the east side of the terrain fall line, it seems like the intensity isn't sufficient to dynamically cool the column enough yet to fully switch elevations below 1000ft to accumulating snow. But it's getting closer.

Picard Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM Just measured 1.2" on the deck. Sparta just plowed our street - mostly slush and probably unnecessary so far. Light but steady snow continues. 32.5F

Tatamy Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM Looks like the center of SLP is crossing LI now. My station on Fire Island has recently seen an abrupt change in wind direction from NE to W with a temperature drop of 4 degrees in the past half hour. JerseyWx Posted yesterday at 03:18 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:18 AM I'm around 640' at the northern end of Morris county. Nothing yet, not even flakes. That said, I'm completely fine even if I don't see any snow, the most important thing being the 1.3 inches of rain that already has fallen.
eduggs Posted yesterday at 03:22 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:22 AM On radar it looks like heaviest bands will be shifting towards the NJ-NY border area into SENY over the next few hours. The SLP is pretty far east.

SnoSki14 Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM Storm next Friday looks legit. All models show but very marginal setup. A weaker storm will end up south but won't have much precip/cold air to work with. A stronger storm would end up further north which means rain for most. Something like the CMC might be the best case.
