Dust bowl out on the roads. Despite the now extreme drought conditions (based on the newest drought map), springs are still flowing well in the Pine Barrens.

Lotta smoke this morning from a nearby wildfire in Jackson.

It looks like today will probably be the last 80° potential of the season for the usual warm spots. While the models are still warmer than average going forward, the departures are forecast to be smaller than the last week. Even with all the record warmth in recent years, we haven’t been able to go over 80° after the first week of November. The last time we had mid-November 80° warmth was way back in 1993. It was also the last time we reached 100° after August. So those two records have been very tough to beat.

Less warm is the new cool

Maybe we need another 80 degree November day like 93.  We remember how good that winter of 93/94 was.

Those were the old days when North America used to get really cold during the winter. The 93-94 winter was the last time Canada had a top 10 coldest winter. Most recent years have been top 10 warmth.

Yesterday afternoon (11/6), the New Brunswick National Weather Service Cooperative station reached a high temperature of 82°.  Not only is this a record for the date, but it is also the warmest temperature ever recorded so late into the fall and ties for the warmest November temperature. Only November 1st and 2nd, 1952 and November 4, 2003, all at 82°, have been as warm. Highs of 80° have been observed on November 3, 1982, and November 9, 2020. No day has recorded an 81° high. Records at this station date back to 1896.

I picked another good batch of pole lima beans yesterday. Nice to have this extended growing season, but of course it will be ending soon. We've had a few close calls, and it looks like another one Saturday night with the temp getting close to 32 here. Maybe it's going to end Saturday night, but if not it won't last too much longer with the cooler pattern in the long range. Monday looks like a warm day, but after that it's going to feel a lot more like November.

The focus has moved to Wednesday night and Thursday after a little Sunday.  We'll see

I see 12z GFS and CMC give us a quarter to half inch Sunday night. Let's hope that's correct. Unbelievable how dry it is out there. Just walking on the yard causes dust to fly. Never seen anything like this.
