102mph gust there. The 105KT FL winds recon found offshore a bit earlier in the southern quad were definite trouble, as was that telltale hook/stinger.

The rainband headed for Orlando later tonight. Hopefully the heaviest part misses to the north, but it does seem to be having a hard time advancing north on radar.

Models seem to have it mainly along I-4 so Orlando will likely get blasted too, hopefully not as bad as Tampa. It'll be along and north of wherever the quasi-frontal boundary sets up that focuses and dumps out the moist southerly feed east of the center.

The amount of rain (10-14" reported and probably more has fallen in some places with more to come) is just nuts. SIAP, but the NWS in Tampa just issued a Flash Flood Emergency for most of the Tampa/St. Pete area, which is rarely used - it's what was issued in our area when Ida's remnants unleashed that deadly deluge on CNJ/NNJ/NYC a few years ago.

BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED

* Until 230 AM EDT.

* At 926 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 10 and 14 inches of
rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.

Riverview, and Palmetto. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS

           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK
HIGHER GROUND NOW! Life threatening flash flooding of
low water crossings, small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

dangers of flooding.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

Tampa is getting rocked. Yeah, didn’t get the surge but the combination of huge rainfall rates and hours of hurricane force gusts is pretty impactful

I didn’t think they’d get this much wind with the eye going south of them. Has to be quite a bit of tree damage since there are many non palms there

SPG has over 10 inches of rain in the last 3 hours.

over 14 inches today so far as of the 9PM observation - likely has or will be setting a daily rainfall record since likely to have heavy rainfall right through midnight, wonder what the record was going into this storm.

edit:  17 1/2 inches today as of 10PM

Believe there’s some nuance to this data based on this gauge location. Looks to be exposed to a north wind. The three other Tampa Bay gauges all are running many feet BELOW normal, as the ocean has evacuated towards Tampa Bay’s mouth.
