I'm still trying to figure out what this love affair with Austin Slater is it all about. No idea why this guy is on the playoff roster. I think he got two pinch hits all year and his batting average against lefties, which he is supposedly a specialist against, was under 200. In all it looks like they are a couple players away from being a full team with a solid bench. Not over but not looking good.

That's Hyde right there. Must go with a rightie against a Left hander. O' Hearn probably hits left handers just as good as Slater does.

This team needs a real leadoff hitter that can get on base and create Havoc.

There hitting hasn't been good for 3 months now.

I am absolutely disgusted and angry and disappointed with this team. They oughta be ashamed!

Ya know...I'm finding that I get as upset about my teams losing in the playoffs as when we miss snowstorms (though this year I'm not bothering to track much). I'm tired of this external stuff I have no control over determining my mood. I just wanna throw something right now and I am frickin' depressed. I know it makes no logical sense because there are more important things in life--but this stuff puts me in a rut.

Sorry Os fans. But ooof, leaving bases loaded when you had no outs and already a momentum turning home run …. Sucky.

Adley taking a fastball down the middle with a 2-0 count and the bases loaded was terrible. He is so passive at the plate. Almost never swings at a first pitch. The overall makeup of this team offensively and the ineptitude in key moments when clutch hits are required needs to be examined. There are too many players that don't make good contact/can't seem to identify pitches/ work the count in their favor. Something needs to change, and it probably means making some additions and subtractions.

I have no idea who the players are or what their histories are like, but I did watch the game while at happy hour with coworkers and it was rough to watch. Bummer after a promising start to the season.

I'm gonna be the lone person saying this, I'm sure, but I honestly think the issue the Os had most of the season(with hitting) was the constant lineup changes and batting order.  It felt like because they have a lot of young players they were trying to get all of them at bats and over time the hitters developed bad habits.  Too many games where it wasn't the same lineup every time.  Not sure all the blame can be thrown on Hyde.  This is the same guy that turned the team around and got them playing well.  Starting pitching was a nightmare with all the ones hurt for the season.  It all adds up and the Royals got hot at the right time.

Its a good team so don't throw in the towel.  Shit, it took the Bats over a decade to get a WS and had much better seasons only to get stuffed in the playoffs thanks to the Cards and Phils.

I have lots of thoughts today, but responding to general consensus in here specifically, the idea that this is on Hyde is nonsense. Your top bats (Gunnar, Santander, Cowser, Adley, Mountcastle) were a combined like 3-40 in the series! There’s your problem! Hyde wasn’t swinging for them! Hyde wasn’t perfect this season, but he was value added as a manager. O’s pinch hitters were like top 2 or 3 in the league this season. His bullpen decisions were right far more often than wrong.  What went wrong with the offense in late June/early July is a more complicated answer than #FireHyde.

Hello darkness my old friend, we've gone one and done again...

If yesterday's game wasn't the example of why Hyde needs to go, I don't know what is.

If they fired Hyde and brought back the same lineup, the problems would still be there. Imo at this point they have too many players that are pretty much the same offensively.

Thank you for mentioning this. I thought the entire pendulum shifted right back to KC after that pitch. We had them on their heels, that is the time to go into attack mode. Sure, at 2-0 it has to be a perfect (hitter's) pitch to swing at...and it was.

My entire disposition changed when he took that pitch. I went from feeling very hopeful to feeling like we just left them off the hook. He had to swing there. Had to.

I have been an O's fan since 79 when they lost to the "We Are Family" edition of the Buckos.

Last year, hurt but this one hurts a bit worse.

Agree with most in here that I don't think Hyde is the problem.

Loved Big Ben's call yesterday, Mullins HR was right on cue.  Also, pointed out Adley's hesitation, more than once.  Admirable job calling both games without being too much a homer.

Hoping next year's edition stays healthy and I will gladly give up early season success for getting hot after the all star break.

Most of the line up seems unwilling to change their approach. Westburg and O'hearn cut down their swing with 2 strikes and tried to just put the bat on ball. I thought that was very obvious.  Others seem to just refuse that approach. Not sure if that's players unwilling to or unable to or coaches wanting them to swing for the fences or a combination of all 3. I find it hard to believe that someone that has the ability to hit a 95 mile an hour pitch is not able to cut down there swing with 2 strikes.

Probably Gunners at bats were the most frustrating to watch.

Adley’s subsequent ground out was hit at 97mph with a .600 xBA. Well struck ball! Bad luck! 3 feet left and he’s got the most clutch hit in the game.

Yeah we had two bad luck balls yesterday...I think O'Hearn stung another one and the infielder just snagged it and threw him out, smh Two hits that would've changed everything!

Agree and agree. I have never seen a lineup so hopelessly stuck in a mental rut for months--so much so that they just couldn't break out of it even when facing elimination. I kept saying this team needed a therapist/sports psychologist, not just coaches! I don't get how you collectively slump that badly. I guess whenever the bad habit started, it got harder and harder to correct the longer the slump went on? And maybe they got more and more anxious at the plate and just started swinging at everything? Who knows, smh

Gunnar was disappointing and kinda surprising because he hit pretty well in the postseason last year! So what ever the mental bug was this year got him too, smh

There is no way anyone can honestly draw a line from Hyde to why this season ultimately failed. Before the season started there was no reason to fire the hitting coaches because the RISP numbers and situational hitting was great last year! So, no crystal ball there.

And what can you say Hyde did to make us lose this postseason series? Some people are getting rather ridiculous saying it's his fault because somebody didn't bunt, or this player was placed too high in the order, or playing McCann (despite the fact he called a great game and Burnes prefers him over Adley).

And overall you can't even point to the team being overall unfocused/undisciplined (not talking about at the plate per se, but just in general). And clearly he had NOT lost the clubhouse like some were suggesting. This is a problem in one area: the hitting. Now it IS Hyde's responsibility to fire those hitting coaches--keeping them after what happened would kinda be malpractice, imo

But otherwise? You can't really blame him for this. Now my first guess is they don't fire him and probably give him one more year to get things right with new hitting coaches.
