It's dry but I'm not mad. If we're going to drought we might as well enjoy it. My local hiking trails are in beautiful condition beside dusty. This feel like a normal fall besides the drought.

This is the time of year when it’s just a nuisance. If we had this pattern 6 months ago on the other hand…

Very unique pattern, can't recall something like this... Essentially no meaningful rain from middle of spring to early August here, hence the crippling drought - followed by raging floodwaters from Debby... Then no rain for 3 weeks , then no rain first 2 weeks of Sept followed by 2 weeks of non stop flooding averaging about a inch per day... Now making a run at 4 weeks without any precip...

Not a heck of alot of rainy days this year here , but well into the 40s inch totals so far...

I wonder if this is a Niña induced blip or if another switch flipped and now it’s going to start raining less like how it’s now snowing less?

I think periods of heavy rainfall and periods of drought are only going to get more extreme. Longer droughts, and more severe flooding when it does rain.

by the way, I got to 82 today.

I heard that, overall, this part of the country is supposed to get wetter.

It actually has. I found a 16-18% increase in annual precip at IAD since 1962. But the variance is probably also increasing.

There was a legit flea/mosquito swarm yesterday at one of the courts I play at.  Was actually in the middle of a training session (one of the parents nearby wanted me to get their kid ready for rec league) and we had to end it early.  Got bit several times (I'm a mosquito magnet, so that part wasn't surprising), but definitely did not expect that in late October and with it being so dry lately.  It did look like they recently mowed the park, so maybe that had something to do with it.

I’ve gotten bit well into November in DC. I think December is when mosquito activity dies down unless Thanksgiving gets cold.

Need a hard freeze. Once that happens they’re done.

Yea, I think it was just surprising how they came out of the woodwork. The court I go to does have bugs on occasion, but nothing like yesterday. I literally received like 5-6 new bites in about 30 mins…and probably more. I could see them on me.

Is it gonna snow soon?? lol.

Crazy how long of a stretch without seeing a single cloud in the sky. Not even cirrus

Going back in time on satellite images it looks like the last day that had notable clouds during the day was Wednesday October 16. Basically wall to wall sunshine for the last 8 days.
