They do better then left the way the come inside. It will look like a dead stick all winter but once you put it back outside it will explode in growth and have lots of flower heads. It's not so much the temperature that kills tropical plants in our area. It's the low humidity we often get during winter.

wxdude64
Not as chilly this morning at 34.4/32.7, but the rare heavy frost has happened here. Usually there is just the faintest of a breeze to keep air moving and frost from forming, today absolutely still air and frosty.
CAPE
low of 37 With a very dry air mass in place and continuing drought conditions, at least there won't be any wind to speak of.

Yes - worked outside all afternoon yesterday on a retaining wall project (160k lbs of 82lb prefab concrete blocks). It was almost cool in the shade but the physical labor make it feel great. Much better than a couple of months ago trying to do the same in the 90's and humidity. Going out again shortly for another round of "exercise". aldie 22
I've lived in Maryland/Virginia 55 of my 58 years i don't ever recall water restrictions in fall or winter. If this dry pattern keeps up i could see it happening in some places Spectacular fall weather though best we've had in awhile.

We just aren’t getting any consistent southern stream interaction. I can’t imagine that changing much in a La Niña, but who knows.
CAPE
Saw a decent sized dust devil today over a dry, dusty field. Remnant corn husks were pulled into the circulation, which made it pretty impressive looking. Tried to get a video but some guy and his wife in a pickup truck pulled over so she could run out into the middle of it and flail her arms around. Was kind of annoying.

wxdude64
Bit warmer this morning at 37.7/35.0. Looks like a pretty decent inversion ongoing out this way, above 3500 ft is in mid 50's, all the way down in valley floors (1100 ft) just right at freezing. I sit about 300 ft above the low spots. EDIT, just checked a bit north, same. Canaan NWR sitting in the bowl at 18 and the ridges right at 50.
Terpeast
Decent cool week. 5 straight nights with lows in the 30s in mid October. I suspect this is the kind of BN stretches bracketed by much AN days we’re likely to see this winter. It’s been bone dry though.

frd
Low of 37 degrees here. Noticed the ground at the large school campus I take my greyhound to is extremely hard, due to soil moisture level currently at 17.62%. Can not remember is being so dry, even for October in these parts for many, many years.
poolz1
Another subfreezing morning low. 5th in a row and two of those mornings hit 29. Definitely an abrupt end to the growing season. The garden is officially toast.
