I’ll note, the large Swamp White Oak outside our house went from mostly green to post peak in 4 days. Yesterday it was peak color and today brown and dropping leaves. Trees aren’t holding the color as long this year and dropping leaves rather quickly. 84 here this afternoon. Brian D Posted October 23 Share Posted October 23 Just keep getting spits of rain. Other than a week ago when I saw not quite a 1/2", this Fall has been very dry. Only 0.62" since Sept 1. Temps running seasonable to mild. Need some good winds to knock off the dying leaves. High school football playoffs underway this week. Two Harbors played well this year (7-1). They got a 1st round bye at 2nd seed. They play this Sat. My grandson has done well this year. Hopefully they will make it to state, but that's a tough climb. I've noticed there is this weird bug like a small black fruit fly that will land on your wrists/hands and bite, leaving a small welt. Never seen them before. In doing so, they cut down the old trees, and it just makes it so open, and I don't care for that. It'll be decades for many of our streets to look like that again. Back in the 70's/80's when Dutch Elm disease hit, and they all had to be cut down, it was the same way. Tonight is our first chance of good rain in two months. However, how much we'll get remains a mystery. Models are all over the place... from barely anything at all to 1.5". If not for the drought, it's quite possible that peak conditions may have not been until early November. They did that last year here with sewer lines, cutting down some big trees then replacing them with new small trees when the project was done. I HATE when they cut down old trees!
