Milty eyeing up Tampa Bay?

Stellar fall day out this way; traffic already building from all the city folk headed to the orchards. That our local tax base is thankful for!

Traffic is building up this way as you go into Sussex County as well.  Had a horrible experience at Alstede Farms many years back with horrendous traffic and place was crowded beyond words.  Not enjoyable at all and have not been back since.  Just can't take all that, ruins the Fall experience.  Great place most of the time but from mid September to late October we tend to stay away, especially on the weekends.

We live about 2 miles as the crow flys. Cannot disagree. Great place, but we avoid it on weekends.

It will turn somewhat cooler tomorrow. Monday could see some showers as a strong cold front crosses the region. In its wake, the region will see its coolest air so far this season. New York City could see its first temperature below 50° since May 13th during the second half of next week.

During the middle of the week, what will likely become major Hurricane Milton will likely make landfall on Florida's west coast. The storm will bring a devastating storm surge inland. There is a risk that Tampa could face some of the hurricane's worst impacts, but later guidance will lead to a more precise picture.

In the Southwest and parts of California, near record and record heat continued. Phoenix reached 111°. Palm Springs reached 115°. That was the highest temperature on record so late in the season in the United States. The extreme heat will persist into early next week before it fades.

The NAO fell to a preliminary -2.751 on September 24th (all-time September record: -2.371, September 12, 1971). That was the 9th lowest value on record. La Niña winters following September cases where the NAO fell to -1.900 or below featured a predominantly positive NAO. The most recent such winters were 2016-2017 and 2022-2023. The mean temperatures for those winters in New York City were 39.3° and 41.0° respectively. The 1991-2020 normal value is 36.2°. A warmer outcome is favored by the September run of the C3S multi-model forecast for Winter 2024-2025.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +0.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was -0.5°C for the week centered around September 18. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged -0.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged -0.18°C. Neutral ENSO conditions will likely evolve into a La Niña event during the fall.

The SOI was +2.19 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -1.569 today.

Big temperature and dew point swings coming up this week. First 40s of the season for NYC with afternoon dew points dropping near freezing. Then a quick bounce back to 70s for the weekend.

55 / 54 off a low of 46.  Another gorgeous day as the overall dry regime continues (when will it end). Low - mid 70s.  Front comes through with some showers light rain or just clouds overnight into Monday morning.   Cooler  10/8 - 10/10, perhaps some frost inland and northern sections before warming later this week and the next coming weekend  Milton to aim for Florida's gulf coast between Naples and St Pete.  Then cooler again by the 14th. - A bit back and forth - overall dry and near normal.
