wncsnow
Just finished with some sandbags here. The main threat is Lake Tahoma dam. If it were to fail, I would lose everything

Back in 2018 when I was living in Virginia there was significant flooding in May. They had a small landslide near the dam making a sensor go off for imminent dam failure and my family had to evacuate and stay at the YMCA for 2 or 3 days while they investigated it. It's been there since the 1920s and seen some major floods.

Met1985
Just spoke to an Emergency service coordinator for Haywood county. That is the way that you present a serious weather situation. I know he gets some flack, but he is nailing this event.
SuperNET1
This should be an event that is taken serious in Old Fort, Marion, Black Mountain, Fairview, Arden, Asheville, Spruce Pine, Lake James, Lake Toxaway, Headwaters of Catawba river and Catawba falls. You guys are in the bullseye. 3

Met1985
From @NavarreDonin the main tropical thread. Freaking amazing. Perspective on the size of Helene, the TS wind field is jaw dropping! Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 345 miles (555 km).

BooneWX
Storm discussion aside - sending everyone prayers and positive vibes this evening as we begin what’s likely to be a historic event for this region, impacting many folks harshly. I wish I could use the term historic to describe a winter storm but this is what we have for now!

Met1985
Yeah definitely sending prayers and just hoping everyone is prepared for the worst. This will likely be a catastrophic event for a large portion of the viewing area IF things turn out the way they are forecast. Hope everyone stays safe and vigilant.
