If the ground were colder, I'd have over an inch by now no doubt. It's struggling to stick but I love a nice day time snowfall!

Started ripping as soon as I hit the state line on 25 coming up from the Upstate but struggling to stick down this way like you said

Could the upper level snow be undermodeled based on how cold the air will be?

I believe that may be a possibility. As crazy as it sounds, there are currently 'lake effect snow' across Texas streaming off the Lakes of Central and East Texas currently. While that is not related to the Upper-level snow we may get, it does offer a clue to just how potent this very cold airmass truly is.

I lost most of the snow from this morning, but I noticed the radar is beginning to blossom along and near the Tennessee side of the mountains. GSP is now saying snow returns tonight into tomorrow with 2 to 4 inches possible with higher totals. They are now saying we could snow into Friday morning.

In my location I’ve found that often the colder the air, the better the upslope. It doesn’t always work out like that but it does more often than not.

Was wondering if I’d come home to any on the ground later.  The other day my 1/4” was gone outside of one spot by the time I got home.  I need a way to keep track of events better, especially when I’m not home for most of them, would like to know my total for the year is currently.  I’m guessing 12-15” after today’s accumulation, I basically go with @Met1985’s numbers and am usually close.   He’s got a couple inches on me this year from the January storm, so basically whatever he has minus 2-3” is what I’m going with as of now, the smaller events tend to even out as it’s so dependent on which ridgeline you are on and elevation in our area of Haywood that one event he’ll have a little more and another I’ll have a little more.

I just drove back up the mountains from Asheville. It appears everything above 4500ft is covered. Your report makes sense with what I saw. I did notice cumulus building near the border. Hopefully that bodes well for us as the sun goes down. Temperature here is 37.

Yeah this next round coming through will lay better in my opinion..the two week warm spell warmed up the ground a bit but starting tonight temps plummet.  Tomorrow's high for many will only reach around 20 degrees while some may not get out of the single digits and the lows for tomorrow night probably around 0 to 5 degrees if not colder.
