Maggie Valley Steve
It looks like GSP is thinking that possible mixing issues would be some brief and limited in the mountains. 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow morning for areas above 3k, then very light freezing rain and rain flipping back to snow late tomorrow night into Sunday with another 1 to 2 inches of snow. We'll see how that plays out.

I do think it hits a firm stopping point sooner than normal but if you look at the jet orienting sw to ne from the gulf, it screams overrunning. There’s a lot to still watch for WNC.

I mentioned this in the other discussion topic, there was a storm in mid-February in 2010 that reminds me so much of this and the jet orientation is very similar. I remember all the local news channels and national Weather service keeping it very far south of us, and then once it got into the NAM time frame it was the first to show moisture coming up into North Carolina. We went from a non advisory to a winter weather advisory the day of the storm for 1 to 2 and by the time it was over we had five to six inches. Which 2009 and 10 winter we couldn't miss a snowstorm. This is the lunch time Canadian and the storm from Feb 2010

It was just a question of how much moisture. I ended up with 9" of beautiful powder that was completely melted before 10am the next morning. 1

Have not looked at the data but I think that winter was the last time temperatures were as persistently below average as this winter.

We had almost 30 inches of snow.

Yeah that winter I had snow on the ground from December 18th to March. That winter was freaking epic! A snowstorm literally every other weekend. I think even in my area I ended up with close to 80 inches that winter. What a freaking season. It all started December 18th with the synoptic storm then massive flow snow. Had close to 2 feet in my yard. 4
