Mowfishin
Listen to the scanner. Real time radio reporting catastrophic failure. Rescue vehicles being overtaken by water. Maybe it was major overtopping but they clearly said catastrophic failure

Yeah, was implying if it already looked like that before the damn failure its probably going to be completely washed out for a long ways.
andyhb
This flooding in W NC and E TN is just about as bad as it gets. Like Camille was for central VA or Agnes was for central PA. 2
batmanbrad
small consolation to all the affected areas/population, but this one's a no-brainer - "Helene" will surely be retired so no more systems with that name will happen.

wdrag
I'm interested in knowing which two models performed best on track from FF-GA, and intensity? I dont need timing assessment. There's quite a few pages for me to wade through. Is there any general consensus. Thanks, Walt

Hurricane models were furthest west.
NorthHillsWx
Probably the worst storm to ever hit the western Carolina’s. Let that sink in. Flooding would’ve met the mark alone but the wind damage is insane 1

bdgwx
In this video at 3:04 we can see the Marathon gas station at 815 1st Ave in Steinhatchee, FL. Using Google Street view as a guide the water appears to be about 2 feet up the ice building on the property. Using detailed USGS topographic maps this property is about 10' above sea level. This puts the surge at about 12' at this point along the Steinhatchee River and at the time the video was made.
WxWatcher007
I have a lot of stuff to sort through, but even though there are videos with higher gusts, there’s one video that says it all. Yahoos aside, what an experience doing this one shoulder to shoulder with one of the greats.

shaggy
On the coast of NC we had very little weather other than some rotating supercells. This is one I managed to catch about 2 miles from my house. Decent wall cloud and a solid funnel for a weak rotation. It tried hard to put one down but never did I don't think 2
