The embedding isn't working, but apparently some rando is flying their private jet into the eye of Helene and core punching it. The plane definitely isn't associated with any NOAA or Hurricane Hunters mission according to the registration data.

If he avoids convection at 45K he'll likely be ok. But dumb move imo.

This will be remembered for a long time. I have concern for everybody in a storm surge vulnerable location. I'm at 15 feet in Gulfport and getting a little concerned even this high.

We are in for a very nasty surprise tonight in Pinellas County.

He said water is now over the seawall in Dunedin Beach and rising with sustained winds that are tough to stand still in and sheets of rain.  The panhandle is going to get rocked.

And now, if something goes terribly wrong, a SAR team is put in danger. Lovely.

lol If you mean SAR as in the FAA filing some paperwork stating that ultimately the cause death/wreck was a jackass flying into a hurricane, then yes, a SAR team will quickly handle this.

I certainly don’t think they would do SAR until well after storm passes.

I won't derail the thread with this, so I won't say anything further after this - but you would be surprised what some teams will brave in an attempt to resuce persons.

Can anyone post some good radar links?

If you have Radarscope, that is best. If not:

local radar: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/?parms=TLH-N0B-0-24-100-usa-rad

mosaic radar: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=local-FL_Panhandle-comp_radar-24-0-100-1&checked=map&colorbar=undefined
