October 23rd and i have yet to start a fire to take chill off. And, i don't even have my wood box filled either

I've already had 2 evening fires in woodstove (last weeks cold snap).

Heading out of town rest of week, but my wife likely will have one or 2 this week.

Happy beautiful fall y'all.  Colors gettin good around here.  Hoping @Atomixwx saved some color for me to view tomorrow.  Sounds like wind may blow that thought outta here.

72 here as well which is the coolest noon temp of the week. Also, this: (Courtesy MU)

This is what a Pacific Jet Extension looks like, and ensemble models agree on its occurrence in early #November. As if it wasn't warm enough already, PJEs often flood the U.S. with mild, Pacific air, and I expect this case to be no exception! The warm-biased pattern continues..

at same time as cutoff lp slides to our south and promotes ridging until its passage aoa 384 which would likely pull down some cooler weather....500's are scorched earth verbatim.

but this is me extrapolating a 354+ model run...so view w/ caution.

Strong WD4H vibes in here.

FYI, courtesy of NWS State College. Looks like Bradford will fall short of a trifecta today. However, AOO is already up to 77F, so that record could fall. Also, the State College Co-op record is very doable today.

.CLIMATE...
A record high temperature of 78 degrees was tied at Bradford on
Tuesday (October 22nd), tying the record set in 1979.

For reference, here are the daily record maximum temperatures
for October 23:

Harrisburg 86/1947
Williamsport 84/1947
Altoona 78/2020
Bradford 78/2020

The State College COOP reports records from 7am-7am, with each
daily report representative of the previous 24 hours. With that
in mind, here is the daily record maximum temperature for
October 24:

State College 78/2020

Personally, I think that posts that have any hint or attachment to political views should probably be saved for OT and not shared in our thread. It's an emotionally charged period of time and I'd hate to see our group come unglued as there are wildly different viewpoints.

We just need to find something we all agree on to unify us......

October 2024 is shaping up to be one of the driest on record, particularly over the eastern part of central Pennsylvania in the Middle/Lower Susquehanna Valley. The month-to-date precipitation at Harrisburg is 0.47" which ranks tied for the 5th driest (2000) October on record. The latest forecast favors a very dry end to the month with little to no precipitation in central PA.

Weather Story from NWS State College, PA. The Weather Story graphic is intended to highlight the current weather concerns for our area, including today's forecast, potential hazards, and/or other useful information.

This looks like the Covid map from 2020.

Today will be our 25th straight day without rain across many spots in the county. I have found 6 stations with measurable (0.01") rain since October 1st. The most being the 0.09" of rain at West Bradford. The other 13 current stations have recorded no rain this month. The longest stretches without rain in Chester County was the 34 straight days at both Phoenixville and West Chester from October 9th thru November 11, 1924 and 31 days at Coatesville and Chadds Ford back in October 1963. A cold front passed through this morning, and we should see temperatures near to below normal through the weekend before warming to above normal by Halloween. Longer range models hint at cooler and wetter weather near Election Day!

Low of 55.  Have my eyes on a potential record warm Halloween (record is only 81).  Also, if we don't add another drop of rain to the month, which seems likely, we'd tie 2000 for 5th driest October on record at .47".  I've only had .03" at my house, which would supplant May of 2023 as my driest month since I began record keeping in 2011.

We've never gone past Oct 27 without turning on the furnace. It's never dropped below 65 in my house yet and doesn't look like it'll be light jacket weather for at least two more weeks. Where are we are hottest October ever?

I've also had .03" rain in the past 40 days. It's drier than a bar on BYU's campus.

15th using a chart with others having gone through all 31 days.
