dailylurker
The creeks that feed into the South River watershed are completely dry. One creek bed looks like a walking path through the woods. It's just dry sand. It's worse now than back in July. The creeks didn't completely dry up. This weeks sprinkles and showers won't do a thing.

Currently light rain is falling and 62.0/61.3 here. So, been raining since, at times actually at a moderate rate. About 1/3 inch since 7 am! YAY! Bob Chill
Got hit with a couple nice localized blobs this AM on the east side of smith mtn. Over an inch since 5am. One of these years (alive or dead lol), a noreaster is going to bank up against smith and dump on us. Rain on east flow overperforms regularly. Bout tired of that S lol

Eskimo Joe
Not really sure where else to put this, but some big NWS news today. The director stated at the NWA conference that WSR-88D radar is being "phased out" starting in the mid 2030s and the public facing website is getting an "overhaul".

Skeptical that they hit the timelines, but it is coming: https://www.noaa.gov/sites/default/files/2024-01/NOAA_Radar_Next-Radar_Next_Program_242901.pdf I can't imagine that the next iteration won't be phased-array. Engineers are still working on the best ways to get the polarimetric measurements. The eventual time resolution increases will be awesome.

Jrlg1181
Very rainy night so far down here either side of the Blue ridge , between Waynesboro and Charlottesville.. Upsloping definitely kicking in with this latest band.... Sitting in the jeep for about 30 min listening to the pounding on the roof despite just getting home from work.... The wife is asleep so I would rather listen to this then go inside...

wxdude64
ALMOST a new record 'warm minimum' set, low was 62.1, record is 63 from 1991. So far a total of 0.85 has fallen since rains have returned, would like more, but least things are damp instead of extra crispy.

wxdude64
Had a decent thunderstorm roll thru late yesterday afternoon, after about an hour or so of hearing distant thunder, now up to about an inch and a third since rains have returned. Definitely helping the new grass come in Currently 60.6/59.2 and foggy here at 8 am.

I lifted some straw in my garden and the little bit of rain that fell here didn't make it through the straw. The trees are about a month ahead due to stress. 87storms
Pretty amazing weather the last couple days. Was concerned I’d be coming back from the desert to the drearies, though it looks like that might be incoming next week. Hoping to at least get some storms out of the front tomorrow.
