Should this streak reach 14 days, there have only been 88 streaks longer than that in the threaded record. The vast majority of 80+ streaks of 10 or more days occurred in meteorological summer, particularly July and/or August. Of all streaks of 10 or more days of 80+, only 19 have extended into and/or occurred entirely within the month of September - the vast majority ending very early on in the month and carrying over from August. I'm wondering how much effect this recent dry weather really will have on colors. I do see some trees with dry leaves falling but also see lots of others starting to color like normal. Torchageddon Posted September 20 Share Posted September 20 This has been one of the best stretches of Sep wx in my life, perhaps even better than anything of Sep 2009,2014,2017 here. Sep 2022 was also good at the start being so sunny. We have not had as long a stretch of clear skies with minimal clouds in all of 2024 so having such in mid-Sep is neat. Started around Tues last week that's 10 days of stellar, pleasant bliss. Blessed and thrilled but now stupid overcast has started mid-day and I'm cowed how the extended is evolving. If we're going to be active all next week, we might as well have a cutoff low because GFS is hinting it during a good portion of next week into next weekend followed by potential tropical remnants around the end of the month. Not feeling overly optimistic for this area, as the heavier rains look very hit or miss-ish later tonight and tomorrow out this way. Looking beyond, looking dry/boring again after this system moves off. Hopefully a more active pattern can develop as we move through October. I know August of 2017 was much cooler overall than this past August but it was similar in the sense that there was some bonified cool air around later in the month this year and in 2017, plus the beginning of September stayed cool in both years. Including an area of up to 6" (!) between Rio, Dekorra, Wyocena, and Poynette. It can't ever just be a little rain anymore, it either has to be no rain at all or a major rain event. This makes this year one of only four years to record multiple 3"+ days in year with 1869, 1878, and 2007 being the other ones. This also puts us over 40" of rain for the year, which makes this year a top 15 wettest on record. Notably before 1990, we only recorded 40" of rain in a year in the 1880-85 period and 1959. And now this is the 8th time in the last 34 years that we have recorded 40"+. We have recorded almost as much rain since Midnight as we had recorded in the over two months prior. Breaks the daily and monthly record set on this date in 2009, and is a top 5(!!!) daily rainfall in Madison. Remnants moving into this area but not looking like anything all that exciting. Nice to see at least see a bit of rain.
