Rain totals since yesterday evening ranged between 0.27" at Devault to as much as 0.57"at Nottingham. Here in East Nantmeal we received 0.37" of rain. The rest of this week looks dry and chilly. Temperatures both Wednesday and Thursday will see high temperatures remaining in the 40's in the higher spots and low 50's in the valley locales. Freezing lows look likely both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

.17 here in macungie. Barely over .10.  Dry begats dry.  Now the Chinook/Santa Ana NW winds kick in the next few days with more red flag warning/fire watches.  30 mph dry NW winds will ring out what little moisture we got last night. This  rain we got just kept the dust down and thats it . I am waiting for the end  of next week when this stubborn pattern finally breaks down and we more  constant rain events and even have chances of snow showers.

I see the dry pattern continuing in December and January, with the first third of December being colder than average, the second third of December being warmer than average, and the final third of December being cool. December is going to be like November 2021. January will be a torch, like December 2021.

The best hope for this winter is for February to end up being an MJO 8/1 mismatch to the -PDO la nina, like January 2022.

Heard it coming down at a pretty good clip around 1-2am overnight I think? Had to end up with .3+ which is more than I thought I would receive.

Accu Weather extended long range Christmas Week forecast. Lock it up, I'll worry about the fine tuning later...

Our high temperatures for today occurred overnight before the cold front passed through earlier in the morning. Temperatures will remain in the 40's for highs through Thursday before we start a slow moderating trend toward the weekend. Most spots, even higher spots like here in East Nantmeal should see their first freeze of the autumn season tonight. Our only shot at rain looks to be Thursday evening.

This drought is going to give 2001-02 a run for its money. I'm not sure if this drought will match that one in terms of longevity, but barring a major rainstorm (and none is in the forseeable future), a drought emergency has to be declared at some point.

That is maybe for "suburban Philly" (e.g., for the Aqua Pennsylvania servicing area), but our water (PWD) comes from a couple sources including the Wissahickon Watershed (and several other watersheds in and around the city)

And then of course, the Delaware River (that obviously starts way up in NY where they are also having some drought issues).

Infrastructure Quick Facts

  • Our water service area is 130 square miles.
  • The most recent U.S Census data shows we serve an estimated 1.58 million people
  • The City obtains approximately 58% of its water from the Delaware River with the rest sourced from the Schuylkill River. We do not treat groundwater sources for drinking water. Visit the Drinking Water Quality page for our official Water Quality Reports.

As an obs, I bottomed out at 49 this morning and it's possible my "high" of 57 will be at midnight.

Currently sunny and 51 with dp 35.

I thought Philadelphians tap water was Schuylkill punch?

Must be an old wives tale..

My God is this an unprecedented drought. And the rain chances over the next few weeks look to be decreasing. I am actually getting worried about water supplies. First fall I can ever remember to be unaffected by tropical systems or coastal lows.

I think 2001-02 is the best measuring stick. That was the mother of all droughts. It went on for months on end until Q4 2002.

Today was the first day that all locations were below freezing. Here in East Nantmeal Township our low of 27.4 degrees marks the latest first freeze in the last 21 years. The previous latest was November 12, 2016. We should see below normal temperatures through Friday before we warm to slightly above normal by the weekend. We have a slight chance of showers tomorrow night especially the further southwest you go in Chester County.

It IS (mostly) Schuylkill Punch.

https://billypenn.com/2015/06/18/schuylkill-punch-why-philly-tap-water-tastes-this-way-and-why-its-not-bad-for-you-really/

There are 2 intakes along the Schuylkill River and 1 adjacent to the Delaware River, the latter one that generated some drama when there was a chemical spill in Bristol, not far from the intake - https://water.phila.gov/drops/phila-water-dept-monitoring-spill-at-bucks-county-facility/.

I use a Pur filter on my faucet for drinking purposes anyway. :P

Had my first "at freezing" (32) temp since March 25, just after 5:30 this morning, and it's currently sunny and 37, with dp a dry 26.

Just watched Fox 29 Winter Outlook. Meh...17in, two storms 3 plus inches, and three nuisances. January the coldest month... Really not going out on a limb on this one

41°

Given the dire winter outlooks on these boards (and yeah, I'm mainly in agreement), I'd take 17" and run. Was that for Philly proper? Maybe we can squeeze out a few extra inches here in the NW burbs.

And as we know, snow accumulation predictions are like throwing a dart...one storm hit or miss makes all the difference.

Yep...so yeah maybe 20" here.

They went in depth about the Fall drought and what it means with stats. Video is 20min+ long...

I'd run it through UV light and reverse osmosis just to be sure :yikes:
