The city did a big tree planting this spring on the streets of the uws. Looks like that was a big waste as most are dead or close. I don’t hate this perfect weather as I obviously work outside, but this is getting a little tiring. Another week of zero rain.

That's the stuff I don't get-they surely know you have to water right?!?!?  Big waste of taxpayer $$$

Yeah, the drier pattern here after the very wet summer is becoming evident now. Lawns have started turning brown with considerable leaf drop. Tough to get a happy medium these days between the brief dry patterns and big deluges.

I hope the block doesn’t push the gulf storm into the central US which would give us little to no rain next week

Yeah, we want a more easterly track in order for a place like Newark to avoid the first under 1.00” month since May 2023 and July 2022.

83  / 53 more sun than projected.  Mid 80s today, maybe the warmest to next spring.  Onshore entourage continues keeping it near normal overall the next week.   We'll see if any of the potential tropical system in the GOM and Upper low bring the rain.

That block above would be perfect in the winter it's not too far south like alot of the winter blocking we've see lately

Straight west to east flow off the Pacific means maybe we’d get a colder rain if a storm could even form since the flow is so fast. No cold air source.

JFK and BDR got to within 3° of the record high today as the +8 to +11 departure will continue to shrink the monthly cool departure.

It will be variably cloudy tomorrow and somewhat cooler tomorrow and Saturday. A few showers are possible on parts of Long Island and eastern Connecticut. A fresh shot of cooler air could arrive for Sunday.

Boston picked up 0.01" of rain today. That ended its 29-day stretch without measurable precipitation, which was tied for the 4th longest on record. Records go back to 1872.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was -0.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was -0.2°C for the week centered around September 11. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged -0.27°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged -0.10°C. Neutral ENSO conditions will likely evolve into a La Niña event during the fall.

The SOI was +8.44 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -1.558 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied 59% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal September (1991-2020 normal). September will likely finish with a mean temperature near 68.8° (0.7° below normal).
