Good for upslope in VT I guess. . The '80s are notorious for low snow totals, but they were quite cold. In 1988 at our (then) Gardiner home, the snow season's 2nd biggest dump was 8" on April 16. The previous year we had 6.3" on April 28-29. Long seasons.

Cascade faces north and is on the north side of the ridge and doesn’t get the sun like other trails.
powderfreak
The Riverbed that essentially funnels 2,000ft+ verts of water down the Gondola area really blew out at a long swath of elevations. It’s good to see some of the photos for when it inevitably gets covered by snow. The Whitewater glade earned its name.

For comparison they’re at 223 inches so far this year so I guess they got a decent amount of upslope and it wasn’t as bad in the mountains of Vermont as it was in the more populated areas. I was coming from Baltimore so it seemed like a shit ton of snow to me ha ha.

I attended Johns Hopkins for 2 years 64-65 and 65-66, before my GPA led to a non-invite for a 3rd year. 64-65 had only some small snows, 4-5" but 65-66 had a major blizzard in late January. 2-3 days before that event the city had a 7" storm, "Biggest since 1959". Then on Jan 30 the big one came, with 4" at 9 PM becoming 10" by midnight. During the school year I lived in a frat house on St. Paul Street, and woke up about 3 AM on the 31st, to see even lower visibility than during the 2"/hour period. Snowfall was lighter but 50 mph winds roaring out of the north produced a true blizzard. Total snow was ~15" and it paralyzed the city. Only Charles and St. Paul were passable north-to-south and IIRC only Orleans east-west. Four days later I went home (NNJ) for semester break, and when I returned 5 days later, many side streets remained impassable, more than week after the storm.

Makes for a long day there and back!I was actually in school at Suny Albany. Albany actually did pretty well my first 3 years of college. 63”, 81”, 77” and then the 88/89 disaster 19”. January 87 was epic. It pretty much note every Tuesday and Sunday the whole month I ended up with over 30” on the ground. .

Cool to hear snow stories from before I arrived. 79 and 83 were the 2 epic storms from my childhood and were my snow weenie seeds. .
GCWarrior
Nice turns at Bousquet today after work. About as fun as manmade snow can get! Snow is going quick though and they don’t have many days left from what I’ve heard. Not sure if I will make 100 days this season. I said the same thing last year and made it thanks to a couple late season storms. May not have such luck this year!

Boston Bulldog
Tucks was absolutely primo yesterday. Low 40s in brilliant sunshine led to a superb corn surface. Winds were angry at times but manageable, and the bowl was mostly protected from the southwesterlies. Booted and skied Right Gully and The Chute (RG booter shown above). Chute is a legitimately terrifying ascent, thank god for crampons. Note the avy debris from a huge slide triggered by a rider on the headwall Tuesday. The Inferno race was ongoing on the Lip and Hillmans as well. Pretty insane to see race gates up on the summit cone! Lower elevations are melting fast, get it soon if you want to be able to ski back to the car! 12
GCWarrior
Nice couple days skiing locally in Vermont. Mount Snow Friday skied great. Woods still had decent coverage and the bumps were excellent. Magic was fantastic yesterday most everything was open minus the really steep stuff. Perfect corn! Got a little sticky in the afternoon on the exposed trails woods remained perfect with a little bit of shade. Magic overall is steeper and lower elevation than Mount Snow so was noticeably more skied off. Place is usually a great time when they have the snow, such fun unique terrain on par with Stowe/Smuggs/MRG. Just wish they got more snow!

GCWarrior
Kicked off spring touring season today with an after work skin. Glorious day! Snow was pretty sweet! I was a little lazy on the spring touring last season due to an epic stretch of good skiing up north. I have a feeling I may need to get after it a little harder this year. Layman
We closed out our season of snowboarding at Bretton Woods yesterday. At the house in the morning it was dense fog and drizzle. That held all the way north til we hit Route 3 just above Cannon. A mile or two up Route 3 and it was clear blue skies, decent breeze, temps in the mid-50's and absolutely beautiful. Conditions were great for warm, wet, Spring-time riding. We had a blast! Unfortunately, we capped the day a little early due to a crash I took. No issues all season long until trying to sneak by a skills-challenged rider on a narrow crossover back to the gondola that had a big muddy/rocky washout. He turned into me, I turned toward the mud to not collide, jumped to try and get over the mud, caught my edge and smashed knees/chest/elbows in the mud and rocks as I slid to a stop. Not fun. Nothing broken but bruised throughout today, ripped Goretex pants and about a half pound of mud in the washer. I was an absolute mess! The Slopes app claims I went from 18.6mph to zero at that moment. At 51yo it hurts a little more than it use to Me earlier in the day - Beautiful out! Rain/mist picked right back up at the Route 3/93 intersection and kept up all the way home.

Boston Bulldog
Aspen Highlands is notorious for its signed but off-map glades and chutes. Came across this one tucked away in the trees of Temerity, really rolls off the tongue 1
