radarman
Great morning at the Beast. Been waiting for this one. 4-5" of blower on top of smooth hardpack. Super fast, super fun. And where they groomed was amazing too, cord so soft and poppy it would bounce you out of turns like a trampoline. 10

I sadly had to work this am. Man I am jealous!

It's been a loooong time since I've been over there but am planning to head out that way in a couple weeks. Hopefully the weather cooperates and conditions stay as good as they look in your pics.

They might find themselves hopefully on the right side of this N->S gradient for the system tomorrow, and could use a heavy stick to your bones snow to get the natural stuff open. Yesterday was great, but the snow was too fluffy to venture onto that stuff. Maybe more on Sunday too.

Most often in March when natural snowpack topped out. Aspect melts out fast in the spring but the rock drops and sustained pitch made it one of my favorites during Match school trips to Killington.
snowgeek
Pico was amazing today. Since they’re closed on Tuesday and Wednesday’s Thursdays are the day to go. About 10” of fresh powder. I got 10 powder runs! Glad I brought my fatties so that I floated over any hard pack underneath. The bumps on summit glade were soft and delicious. The corduroy was so soft. Just stellar conditions. I did make one mistake and skied the old poma line just past Giant Killer. Never again! That was terrifying haha. Side slid my way down most of it. .

snowgeek
Pico is so good! The terrain off of Outpost and little Pico is very underrated. And yeah that Poma line is spicy!Spicy LOL, I like that. The old poma cable was exposed on the snow in a couple of places and I discovered that edges do not hold on lift cables haha. It was like teflon. I went down when I hit it but luckily I was moving real slow. And there were some random metal spikes sticking a few inches above the snow. It was a real clusterfudge. Simply getting down uninjured was my goal. I learned my lesson for sure haha. .

snowgeek
F**k!! My biggest fear. I look up every time to make sure the freaking lift is well attached to said cable although I always considered it an irrational fear… Until now!.

GCWarrior
Finally got out for a tour. Been since March 2023 for really good natural snow touring around here. Today I headed up to East Dover town forest backcountry zone. Off rice hill road in Dover, VT. What a treat 45 mins from my couch! My first time skiing up there and I want to go back tomorrow! Tons of snow, 6” of fresh on top of deep base, it skied very well. My 98mm touring rig wasn’t really wide enough up top to stay on top of the slight ice crust. Had to hop out of the turns. I’ve stopped keeping track of my stats but I honestly could have skied all day. Had to make it home for the pup though. Double dipped and did some laps at the home hill later in the day. Conditions were really good in the woods. Reminded me of Sugarloaf, icy, rocky, chalky wind blown snow on top. Last picture is Berkshire East for reference !
Boston Bulldog
I will always contend that the MRG ridgeline off the Single is some of the most exciting inbounds skiing in the East. Last weekend was no different - Fall Line, Paradise, and the plethora of cliffs and chutes as you push farther out were all in incredible condition. Also, the zone looked beautiful late Saturday afternoon as the sun backlit through altocumulus ahead of the incoming storm.
sankaty
There was an inquiry about wiring ski boot insoles for heat in the NNE thread. Thought I’d post the details here. You should know that I’m a self-aware ski boot primadonna who insists on both maximum performance and maximum comfort. My bootfitter is also my de facto therapist, and I don’t think he feels he really signed up for either role. Here are the options I’ve tried: Adhesive chemical heaters. They don’t fit in my boots. Otherwise, I’d probably have stopped here Neoprene “boot gloves.” These work much better than expected! They still have a role in my toe warmth routine, but they restrict easy access to buckles, so they’re a little annoying. They also hide too much of my awesome Ferrari-red Atomic Hawx Ultras. Heated socks. My wife loves these, and they do work well, but even the thinnest ones I could find (Lenz 6.1) don’t really fit in my boots. It’s also a little annoying to have just one or two pairs of socks. Aftermarket heated elements. I’m having great luck with these! The main brands are Hotronics and Therm-ic. There are two main ways to install these. The conventional way is to cut a hole in the footbed and thread the cord through. A couple of bootfitters recommended an alternate installation method (only possible with Therm-ic) where you fold the cord around the toe of the footbed, which is less invasive because you don’t have to cut a hole. I tried both methods and didn’t like either at first, because I could feel the hole using method 1 and could feel the lump of the element cord using method two. With method 2, I tried dremeling a relief channel on the underside of the footbed, but there was not enough thickness to take up the depth of cord, so it was still uncomfortable. I solved this by putting a 1mm foam shim under the footbed, which gave enough depth to stash the cord. The shim takes up a tiny bit of volume in the boot (not a bad thing after 35+ days in the liner), and the heat element and cord are now completely undetectable (other than the heat ). I ran the cord out under the arch, cut a small hole in the liner near the arch, and ran the cord around the ankle to the outside. Makes more sense in the photos below. Pro tip: both heated socks and elements are about half price if purchased from Europe instead of the US. I ordered mine from bobliesure.com. I’ve also had good luck with snowinn.com. Pictures below to show the process:
Layman
Beautiful day at Killington yesterday. My first time back in probably over 20 years. We took a long break raising kids (they're 18 and 20yo now) and it feels awesome getting back into it again. Chilly start to the morning at home at -2. The moon was stunning on the ride up. Met my brother in Concord so we could re-live the days of yore on the mountain. We used to ride all the time together from 1995-2001ish and really haven't since so it has been fun getting together again this year after such a long layoff. The mountain was 100% open, not a ton of people there, snow conditions were great, a little breezy, a little chilly up top, but once you got into the trees it was fine. Overall a fantastic, memorable day! The morning sun dipping below the trees Excellent conditions My wife at the bottom of Highline - she's not a fan of black diamond trails but did great! My brother and youngest son on the last run of the day.

amarshall
Took the kids to Les 3 Vallées France for Feb break . The scale here is so unfathomable for anything else we’ve ever skied . Conditions are fantastic and pricing is a fraction of a west coast trip. Full week lift ticket for an adult $350. In the second picture every open face you see is skiable . 4 hour ski run from one side of the resort to the other . .

That, and, the Arlberg region of Austria are probably the best at advanced notice (though we got skunked there at Christmas 2022). Places like the Dolomites, the Maritime Alps (i.e. Isola 2000, Auron), and the Southern Swiss Alps (i.e. St. Moritz) are much less snow sure but great when they're "on."
GCWarrior
Great afternoon skin with one of my oldest friends and my 16 year old. Conditions were fantastic, tons of base with a nice top layer. Wind was a little strong in places but nothing like what the resorts experienced today. Definitely some best skiing I’ve done all season!
