Looks like some nice packed powder! Awesome!

Yes the quality was surprisingly good. I think having good cold weather (low teens) a few days ago on the final day of snowmaking really helped. It was one of those nights that the guns make such a mist that I get some all the way down to my house half a mile away, and the whole valley is in fog

The snowmaking updates throughout the early part of the season that you and jay do are the best. Gives an idea of what the next week or two will look like terrain wise if you know the mountains patterns.

Not throwing shade at all, as I know how it goes sometimes… but I have been surprised that Sugarbush hasn’t updated any dialog about what’s going on there since mid-October.

They typically do this in their blog posts and then fire up the daily reports once the season starts. Looks like there have been several entries since the start of November. Not the easiest to find but the info is there.

Tuesday seems like something to watch up north too, more upslope potential after that smaller event as well. I’m hoping someone is open on my epic pass next Wednesday.  It’s time to ski!

Stowe’s problem is needing to open top to bottom on 2,100ft vertical…

From about the blue line and up is decent, but the bottom 500 vertical feet is the problem.  So could ski 1500 verts but can’t open due to that last 500.

So we are left searching for 1500ft snowmaking temps.  I like to see -5C to -7C at 925mb for decent base area temps (26F or lower).

Another night, another mild one at elevation.  The mid-slope climate is well mixed and in a mild month, you can’t hide from it like the valleys can.

28F in the valley and 39F in the base area.

It’s cold where people live, but warm on the mountain.  The inversions are things that skew public perception on snowmaking.

Jay planning on spinning the Jet on Saturday for passholders, and free skiing for anyone who bought the 4 pack of tix for $279.  Not bad getting a path down to 1800'.  Also changing up the opening day this year with adding a blue to opening day off the top of stateside.  I'm going to assume they are betting hard on being able to blast away from Sunday on.

Looks like we're officially in consistent snowmaking season now.  Looking forward to getting some early December runs in this year.  It's been a long time since we've had the time and motivation to make the effort but we've got the whole family kitted out this year and the wife and I are ready to get back out there and enjoy ourselves on the slopes again.

Anyone know how bad the damage is to the Cliff House Lodge at the top of the gondola on Mansfield (Stowe)? @powderfreak

From what I gathered on the radio was the fire was contained to the Waffle kitchen and had snuffed itself out by the time crews got up there via snowcat.  Was lucky a Lift Mechanic was up there to spot it though. On the radio it sounded like heavy damage to the kitchen but that building is like a concrete bunker that contained it inside the walls of The Waffle.  It’s all concrete around that space.

A general observation here for the epic resorts so far. One of the benefits of standardized websites for the vail resorts should be the simplicity of providing updates to the public, but most of the northeast locations have blank screens for their snow and weather report. Stowe seems like the favorable exception with a good write up. In all fairness, the only people that are likely interested in the first days of the season are people with season passes, and so they have the longest arc of consideration, but from a customer point of view, it sure would be easy to cut and paste a simple message that expresses gratitude for being interested, and expressing a tentative opening date.

onward nevertheless, such a great thanksgiving gift for a blanket of snow for the north country, bring it on! might have to venture to Sunday River on Friday to get some runs, but I'd stay local at wildcat if it was an option.

If anyone has the means to get there, can’t stress enough how good the skiing is at Jay right now…ski right on to the lift, all of stateside off the jet and there are some woods in play, maybe more today with it still snowing. It’s mid winter powder and packed powder. If they get the Bonnie running by the weekend once they wrap up snowmaking at the base and unload, almost the whole mountain will be accessible with a little hiking. Wouldn’t be shocked to see the tram either. It’s really good.
