Hurricane Debby

Recommended Posts

Band going through the space coast is  decent. Sitting under our lanai porch enjoying the show.

didnt bother dropping the hurricane fabric for this one. But next time I might close a few panels just so I have a more rain-protected space to hang out.

There’s no nuance on Twitter (and sometimes here) too. A lot of people think RI means a doom scenario TS to cat 4, but there are plenty of instances like this one where you go from a minimal TS to a higher end one or whatever. We talk about categories and wind, but retirement of this name will hinge on the extent of rainfall along the coast and inland. Hard for a lot of folks to be objective (not throwing shade, it is what it is).

looks like its going fairly northeast now no? early?

Yeah, radar with the eye now makes it easy to see it's direction. Definitely northeast. This path looks like it would take it between Ocala and Gainesville.

during the last 1/2 hour a big blob of convection developed just about right at 84W and just a pinch north of 28N...

Debby is starting to enter the West Florida GOM shelf. Sea depth will get shallower the rest of the way.

Definitely improving structure but dry air is certainly entrained. Watch how unstable the eyewall is. Certainly seems like the storm has developed a solid core but until the dry air it sucked in earlier is fully mixed out I don’t see this strengthening too much. That can happen quick though- see Beryl

Holy moly is the St Pete area getting slammed. Close to 10” already just south near Sarasota.

Big rainfall totals will be seen there.  Debby has a tail that is long and will train over Tampa as it moves NE.
